Dress help!

One of my husband's friends is having a birthday party.  He's from Russia and he's having a traditional Russian party.  Apparently dinner will not be served until around 11pm and the party doesn't even really "start" until 12:30!  Dennis (the guy having the party) said, "Attire is semi-formal.  Women should wear dresses but the idea is to still look nice while dressed to have a good time."

So....

I'm at a loss!!  All I know is that I would prefer a dress that can be worn with my red MJ pumps (they're like this, but red).  Obviously my first thought is LBD, but I'd like to find something fun.  I've never met most of the people my husband works with, so I'd like to make a good first impression (translation: look super hot).

If I don't need to buy shoes, I'm looking to spend around $200 on the dress, as long as it's something I can wear again.  If I have to buy shoes, I don't want to go over $100.  I think I look funny in strapless, but I'm open to pretty much anything else.  TIA!

Russian Parties are so much fun! In my experience they tend to be very over-the-top... loud music (particularly Shakira) and lots of vodka.

I love this dress and think it would look awesome with red shoes (thats how I'm planning on wearing it). Don't know when the party is though and it's backordered until the end of August

Ooooh!  I love that, and yes, it would look awesome with red shoes.  Unfortunately, the party is in the middle of August and the dress will still be backordered.  :(  Maybe I'll order it for later (I think it will be great for holiday parties).

Ilovechoo, do you have this dress?  It is gorgeous, but I don't know how Newport News stuff runs.

not yet, but I ordered it and promise to post a full review. I know noone really knows how NN stuff runs, so I decided to be the guinea pig.

What do you guys think about this in brown?  It's more than I wanted to spend but maybe I can find a code.

Here it is in brown (although I wouldn't wear it like this).

I actually like the one on the left (the tangerine) better. The dress you are looking at doesn't look like it fits the model well (look at her left breast area; it looks like the fabric is gaping - and it kind of looks that way, though less so, on the second model in the brown.

love it! Especially worn like the first one.

what about in the teal instead of the brown? That color looks really pretty too, and I bet you could make it work with the red shoes.

I think I'm going to look around some more.  I saw a Karanina fit guide at activeendeavors.com and it said the material is incredibly slinky and that's not really what I'm going for.  I think it's awesome though and I really like it in all the colors.

I think it would look pretty with a silver or a pale mint green.  Of course, I find $1000 and $3000 dollar versions, aye yiye yiye.

Lynnie, you're trying to break me!  Those are gorgeous though.

Lmonet, thank you!  I especially like the first two and the last one.  I really like the idea of purple or teal with the red shoes.

Ahhh! You should totally try this Michelle Mason dress...it's a stretchy jersey and can been worn a bunch of different ways. I am in love with it but have nowhere to wear it

Jersey Halter Dress(also comes in turquoise, which would be HOT with those shoes)

Halleybird, I love Michelle Mason and I also think that turq would look awesome with my shoes.  This is really exactly what I was looking for!  I emailed the Fashion Pulse because they say that it's unavailable.  I'm checking sites right now, but has anyone seen it elsewhere?

If I can't track down the Michelle Mason one, I think I'll go with this Rachel Pally dress in peacock or icy blue.  Do you guys think that would be ok?  Sorry for the huge pic.

I think that dress would be really pretty, esp. in the turq.  I like how you can wear it with two different necklines.  Very pretty.  How would you accessorize it?

Since the dress is pretty simple I think that accessories are really going to make the outfit.  However, I always have problems with this so I need some help from you girls! My first thought is silver.  I'd probably wear the neckline like the first Rachel Pally picture.  I  normally wouldn't have considered a necklace, but the model is wearing one and I like the way it looks. I'd probably wear my Tiffany's disk pendant (it's probably too long though), my silver cuff bracelet and some cool earrings.  Right now I really don't know though, so I'm up for suggestions.  I was also considering red to kind of tie the dress and the shoes together, but I'm thinking that would probably look too matchy.

Also, if I can find the Michelle Mason dress (I emailed Fashion Pulse and I'm hoping they have the turq, found an ivory one on Ebay, and Blaec has it in stock in olive), I like the way that Blaec has accessorized this one.  And I also like the way that Nicole wore it.

I personally think the necklace is all wrong with that dress. When you have a neckline with a lot going on, skip on the necklace. I like the idea of bold (like Nicole's) earrings and your cuff.

I also think the belt on the blaec.com dress is a little overdone. Such a beautiful dress, but I think the belt clashes with it somewhat - too big, too stiff, and a little *too* tough for that dress. I'm sure there are other nice belts you could find to wear like that though, and a belt wouldn't be too much w/earrings and a cuff.
