Favorite Wine??
Permalink Closed

Hi all, I am really bored at work and just wondering what everyone's favoirte wine is?

I am a broke newlywed saving for our first home so I like to keep it cheap if I can. I am looking for more types of wine to buy so we can stock up for entertaining.
I like fruity, not dry Merlot's and fruity Pinot Grigios. I love Ecco Domani Wines. Usually run about $10 a bottle and you can get them at most grocery stores and some restaurants. I love their Merlot and Pinot Grigio. They have a pretty cool website if anyone is interested.

I love Periquita Classico (red). It is the best wine I have ever had. Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is also really good and I usually like anything Protugese or from the Andalusia region in Spain.

Ohh I love Pinot Grigio also.  I'm not too good at picking wine out so I'd love to hear ya'lls suggestions also.

Has anyone tried Cavit Pinot Grigio?  They keep advertising it on tv.  Just curious.

Soehne Schmitt Riesling.  It is cheap and sweet and yummy.

Oh, reverse that...it's Schmitt Soehne Riesling...

They have a good variety, from sweet to dry...with varied aromas and notes.

They come in a cobalt blue bottle...check your grocers...usually under $10 and one of them you can find on sale for $5.99 occasionally.  Also try their Liebfraumilch!

I like Penfold's a lot. They have a nice Sauvignon Blanc and I think it was them who had a yummy Cabernet-Shiraz blend.

Fat Bastard is pretty good too and is a good converation starter. Based on the name, I never would have bought it but the dud at the wine store highly reccomended it- and he was right, it's good! I liek their cabernet the best.

I don't know how accessible Rutherford Hill is outside of California, but they make a lovely merlot that even Miles would like.  It ranges in price here in LA between 12-17 dollars, and it's just delicious.

For pizza and spaghetti, the Coppola Rosso (about 7 dollars a bottle at Trader Joes) is tasty.

Has anyone ever tried Malbec?  I've read about it, but would love some recommendations about which brands are reasonable and tasty.

Thanks.

I really, really love YellowTail, particularly their Shiraz. It's probably on of my favorites.

Another vote for Yellow Tail.  I also like Rosemont Estates Shiraz.

That's my hubby's favorite!! I don't care for it too much, but I am going to have to try their merlot and pinot grigio if they have them.

lsubatgirl - Cavit PG is the best! I've been drinking it since college (6 years).  Back then you could buy the Big bottle for about $10.  Now the small (or regular size as most people would consider it) is about that price and the large is somewhere around $13 but I still get it and it's still a great price.  I like to try lots of different wines so when i go to the wine store I always buy one large Cavit Pinot Grigio and then one small bottle (usually red) of something new but I always have Cavit in the fridge.

Anyway, right now I'm also into Smooking Loon, I really like their Merlot and Pinot Noir (which tastes a little fruity to me) and they're about $10 a bottle.

One of my favorites too - you can get a big bottle for less than $10 at Costco (if yours sells alcohol, that is).  Other than that I don't really have a brand preference.  I like most Pinot Noirs and Cabernets.  Not much of a white wine fan.

I am not much of a wine person, but my BF is. RH Phillips EXP viognier is the only wine I look forward to drinking. It is rich but has such a smooth after-taste..like butter. Yum. It's around $17 a bottle which isn't too bad.

I'm loving cheap Australian wines right now - Lindeman's and Yellow Tail.  I second RH Phillips wines especially Toasted Head.

My friend bought a jug of Carlo Rossi sangria for our camping trip recently - and I have to admit it was really yummy and super cheap.

Thanks for the review on Cavit.  I just wanted to write in that a few weeks ago right after this post started I tried Pacific Rim Riesling and it was pretty good.  I would definetly try it again.  As far as yellow tail goes I didn't like the Chardonnay that I tried at Olive Garden by them.

Hogue Genesis Cabernet Sauvignon is one of my favorite reds.  I forget whether it's the 2002 or 2003.  Soooo good.  I also love Viognier, a great white wine that goes really well with chicken or fish with a light sauce.  My favorite so far is Yalumba; it's Australian.  Kris Pinot Gris is really good, too.

If any of you are blessed enough to live near a Total Wine, that store is insane! I get the majority of my wine there, it's cheaper than the supermarket.
