Ugh- Crazy Roomate!

I need to vent! My roommate is a crazy b**%&

Here's the story:

I took a lease in my name last september.  Its a big two bedroom apartment for pretty cheap.  The reason that I took out a two bedroom was so that my "friend" and roommate could live there even though she had a pending judgment against her from her previous landlord for non-payment (even though there were extenuating circumstaces....I should have known better).  Let's just say, I could have afforded better, but I took this apartment so she could share the rent.  Oh, and my lawyer friend helped her in her case.

So we live there for 8 months, she always paid rent on time.  I end up leaving my job because I wanted to move back home with my boyfriend of 3 years. I still have 4 months on the lease, which I intended to pay it.  I have morals, I won't screw someone- even though I could have kicked her out and found a new renter to take the apartment.

Last week she decides that she has found an apartment and is moving out August 1st. Yes that's right 2 weeks notice for me to pay $800! So I said that was unacceptable and she thinks the only compromise is that if she moves out August 15th she can pay me $200! (Yes, rent is due August first- I would pay $600).

I eventually found a better compromise- I put an ad in apartments.com and try to get the place rented and that way we would both be rid of the apartment issue. But she didn't want to help show the apartment even though I have a new job and can't be there.  So I said, if you don't help I will sue you for the money (I love free lawyer friends!).  I know its rash- but I really just don't have the time to fight about this, my life is busy enough and clearly she's not smart.

She calls me today and says --- I am only paying you $200!!!!!

Are you kidding me!?!?! Is she taking crazy pills?!?!  She made a verbal-understood agreement with me that she would live with me and I was going to take out the lease- why else would I take out a 2 bedroom in a crappy apartment complex!?!?  And I, who has been out of work for nearly 2 months is supposed to pay $600 and then $800 in september if I don't get this place rented? This agreement- legally binding! (Thank god). So I am filing to sue now.

Sorry girls. Needed to vent. Also, if you have a roommate- Don't take her crap!

That is some serious bullsh$t. I don't know how you restrained yourself from b$tchslapping her! Would it be easier to just take a loss on the security deposit for breaking your lease? That way you could both split the cost of that and it would be an equal payment. Although if she's not agreeing to your terms now, I'm sure she never will.

I can't believe you have to resort to taking your "friend" to court. It's amazing how nasty and selfish people can be. Let us know what happens.

Ughh that blows - - after everything you did for her?! Just helping her w/your lawyer friend alone, she must not have any idea how much she would have paid another lawyer.  Some people. . . .
