Am I doing something wrong?
Permalink Closed

I left my very fun, very frustrating job to come home and be with my family and boyfriend of 3 years. I got a new job (after a long search), but... oh my god... its sooooo boring. No one talks here, literally. We aren't allow to talk in the office, eat at our desks (I am lucky I can still drink my coffee), and we have a strict 1/2 hour lunch. I sneak on the internet! I hate already (3rd day).

Should I look for a new job, yet again?

Stick it out for a year (Hey it's money) then look?

Or am I not giving it a chance?

I just need some opinion and feedback. I am frustrated.

It seems like you already know you hate it.  What's with the strict rules?  No talking? What is this? Kindergarten?  The things you listed aren't likely to change and that could drive you crazy if you're there for a year.  If I were you, I would give it a few more weeks and see how you feel. If you still don't like it, you probably never will like it and I say move on. Life's too short to be stuck in a job you hate (and trust me, I know all about that).

Why wait a year? I was just wondering why that was a magic number.

To be honest, I'd start looking now. When people ask why - tell them the truth! If they think it's ok & normal to work in an office where you can't talk at all & is a miserable work environment, they you don't want to work there either!! Life is too short to waste a year in a job you hate. IMHO

Oh start looking because it will not get better!!! My cousin's job is like this and she hates it.  She has been there for a year and a half now and it hasn't gotten better with those riduculous office rules.

You're better off either leaving now (if you're only there a month or so, you can just leave it off the resume), or sticking it out for at least a year. If you don't think there's room for growth, then go ahead and abandon ship.
