Yeah, but on the other hand this guy was wearing a padded winter coat (it's like 70 degrees) and he jumped over guardrails and was trying to get away from the police, and that's why they shot him.   I really hope they didn't kill an innocent person, but if he were an innocent person, why would he try to evade the police, especially after what happened yesterday?

it's like the whole world is on this crazy roller-coaster ride of fear that's just never ending.  it's all so terrifying and maddening and you just have no idea what next awful thing will happen.  i hate terrorists so much!!  how in god's name are there so many of them?  what makes a child grow up to be a terrorist?  how in the world will all this ever end?

with regard to this instance, i don't understand why the man was shot while apprehended on the floor.  because couldn't they have just arrested him at that point?  do you think the police were reacting out of sheer fear?  wanting to do something, anything to seem effective in light of the bombings?  which is understandable but how the heck does it solve anything?  is this problem even solvable?  i keep thinking for every problem there's a solution but these terrorist attacks are like some kind of tangled up monster that just keeps coming and keeps growing, what the heck are we supposed to do???????

crazy...

yeah, he might have looked suspicious, but couldn't htey have just arrested him? If he was really wrestled to the ground, coudln't they have handcuffed him at that point? maybe just shot him in the leg if they had to so they could control him? There was no reason for them to kill him. Even if he was guilty, he deserved a trial.

I was confused by this because I thought British police didn't even carry guns! It was pointed out to me when I lived over there, in a not-so-subtle "you americans are so violent, look, our cops don't even carry guns" kind of way. They DO have a much lower crime rate.

But anyway the article says the reason they didn't try to cuff him or wound him is because, if he actually were a suicide bomber, he would detonate the bomb before letting himself be arrested. However, I don't know how the hell you're supposed to make that call--if he DOES have a bomb it's the right call but if he doesn't, then he's dead despite not being an immediate threat to anyone.

Sephorablue- they were undercover cops.  I think with all the bombings going on they will probably be carrying guns for a while.

Most British police don't carry guns, but there are special units that do, and this was a special unit that got him.  I read in the NY Times yesterday that this guy was directly connected to the bombings, so in light of the whole situation, I don't think they police had too many other options than to shoot him before he blew them or a train up.  Its unfortunate.  The whole situation sucks.

I took a class on Islam while I was in school right after September 11th and we talked a lot about terrorism/terrorists.  The people that become terrorists have such a warped idea about what Islam is that everything Americans stand for and believe in is evil to them.  Its so depressing because there is absolutely no common ground we share with them, so negotiating is next to impossible.  I have no idea how we're going to come up with a solution to it.

Ugh.  What a downer.

I understand the guy looked suspicious, but I know that when someone is homeless they wear whatever jacket/clothes they own all of the time for fear of another homeless person stealing it. In addition, homeless people often run away from authority because they are not really supposed to loiter in the cities.

I'm not saying he was innocent, but I'm just trying to offer a reason for his actions b/c he really could have been innocent.

My friend was in London the day this happened and apparently the police had to shoot him in the head because if he had a bomb and they shot him anywhere else, the bomb would have gone off.  It's not really an excuse for the police because they shouldn't have killed him, but at least we can understand why they did it.
