has anyone gone into a place they've never been to before and just told them to do whatever they think will look good? I desperatly need a haircut but really can't decide what I want (which is why it's gone this long...). I don't like the place I went to last time, so was thinking of trying Aveda. For some reason I trust the name. Am I just asking for a nightmare haircut if I just tell them to go for it?

I've done this before and NEVER been disappointed. Sometimes I'm just so sick of my hair that I need a fresh perspective. I consider Aveda and upscale salon, so they will definitely know what they are doing. Just be sure to tell them what you DON'T want and they can figure out a cute hairstyle from there.

Good luck! Keep us posted...

I did it yesterday!
The girl is the lwife of a co-worker, and I had never met her before. We had a short chat before, but then she cut as she wanted and told me how to style it. I LOVE it!

I'd say, go for it! And then, it's going to grow back anyway.

ok, I just made an appointment for tonight right after work (so surprised that they still had something open with that short notice!!). And just so I don't mess up liek I usually do- how much am I supposed to tip? I feel like I always get it all wrong. The cut will be somewhere around $55.

I have read somewhere that if you think the stylist did a good job, it should be 20% (11$ in your case), but you might also want to leave 2-3$ to the shampoo girl/guy

20% is the norm... so at $55- i would leave $12 or so...  did you ask how experienced the stylist you are schedule with is?  when i make rash appointments- i always ask to be with someone who has at least 5 years experience...

good, I've actually been tipping Ok then. I thought it was 20% but I always feel iffy.

I didn't think to ask about her experience but it was ok. My hair looks nice but it's basically the same cut I've gotten fot years. It was so grown out thought that there was no way she could have known that and she explained why it was best for me in a way that made sense so I trust her. I guess the problem is that I really want my hair short, even though I know it is super thick and will be about a mile wide if it's anywhere above my shoulders. (made that mistake a few times before )
