I took my measurements recently when I signed up for Myshape, and because I'm still working on tracking down an awesome leather jacket on ebay.  I noticed on Myshape and a various stores lately that my measurements do not correspond with the size I wear.  At all.  To an absolutely amazing degree.  It seems like every store uses similar measurements for their sizing charts, but fail to make those match up with their actual clothing sizes.

For example, the size I actually wear is 4 sizes down from my 'measurement size' at Ann Taylor Loft.  I wear 2-3 sizes down at JCrew.  2 sizes down at BR.  WTF people?!

How in the world is one supposed to purchase an item online, from anywhere, based on size charts like that?  I'd prefer to see actual garment measurements, at least that way one could compare it with something they own that already fits well. 

Has anyone else found this happening to them?  I find it totally vexing!

YES. It's so hard to shop online if you haven't visited the place in person before. The size I wear never matches up with the size chart. If it's a site that doesn't have a store, or a brand I've never tried, I try to guess the size chart based on other clothes in my closet. Like if it seems like a younger brand, or a more "designer" brand, I usually take one of the largest sizes. If it's more of a grown woman/misses type of place I order the size I usually take at ATL or NY&C. But it's still a crapshoot. I hate it. Vanity sizing is a bitch but it would be a little more tolerable if they were still upfront about what the sizes actually are!

This is exactly why I rarely buy things online that I can't return in a B&M store near me. I think listing the garment's actual measurements is a great idea. I mean, most people do this for Ebay, why would it be so difficult for a place like BR to do it?

I agree - if I go by my actual measurements I should be buying 2 sizes up from what I normally wear. Shopping online for clothing is such a crapshoot for that very reason. I tend to stick with the same few brands.

Totally agree. Perfect example is a romper I ordered from The Limited that just came in today. I ordered a M based on the size chart and when I tried it on today it was SWIMMING on me. Ugh now I have to go to the store and return it.
