I'm new to the whole coffee thing, so I don't know what's what. I adore mochas, but I bet they're horribly unhealthy. What about cappucinoa and lattes? (I mean in terms of fat and sugar). Thanks!
think about it this way. plain black coffee itself is only like 5 calories, so it's what you ADD to it that gives it the calories, fat, sugar etc.
i'm a latte fan myself, but i always make or order it with skim milk so it's like 5 cal + 90-100 cal or so for the milk. not too bad.
coffee drinks start to become "dessert" caliber when you're adding whip, making them with whole milk (yum!) and adding sugar, syrups or chocolate (which i believe a mocha has).
here's a link that gives you all the nutrition info in each type of drink they make at starbucks. it also tells you what specifically goes into each drink, (ex: Caffè Latte Espresso and steamed milk Rich, full-bodied Starbucks® espresso in steamed milk lightly topped with foam.) hope this helps.. enjoy your coffee!
I love Starbuck's Vanilla Lattes, but it kills me to get skim milk - it just doesn't taste the same as whole milk. It's not near as good. The funny thing is, I drink skim milk at home..why can't i get used to skim milk in my lattes?
Mmm, hazelnut lattes sound good! I love having all these new things to try! Except that I know I'll get addicted, and I don't want that. A guy I work with at a gallery also works at the coffee shop nearby, so he gets me free drinks
I always get a latte with skim, so I'm only drinking 160-210 calories (depending on the size I get that day), so I don't think it's bad for you at all if you drink them smart.
A mocha does have chocolate and whip, so definitely not as healthy as a latte, but if you're only having them once in awhile, it's not going to kill you. On a different side, there have been proven benefits to moderate (key word here) coffee consumption, like lowering your chance of a type of diabetes, and a few others that I can't remember right now. I also get 45%-60% of my daily calcium in one of my drinks, so that's also good!
I used to always order iced caramel macchiatos and then read this post and saw how much fat was in it, and how much less fat was in the nonfat one. So the next day when I was at Starbuck's I ordered the nonfat one expecting it to taste horrible but I actually liked it better to my surprise!
