...t-shirts that you acquired in college and previously. The kind that are oversized and often given away for free that get worn to class when you're too tired to care?

I can't bear to get rid of them because I'm sentimental and want to keep...

  • not too oversized l/s t-shirt from college choir tour

  • HUGE school t-shirt with the squirrel mascot

  • not too big camp counselor "STAFF" uniform shirts

For the most part, I won't wear them (except maybe some of the smaller ones when I excercise). So do I get rid of them? I'm dorky and really want to keep them for sentimental reasons, but I don't know...

In high school, our class had shirts made that had our grad year and "seniors" on them, and we tie-dyed them together for a pep rally. I wore mine all the time, but after I graduated I decided it was time to retire it. I didn't want to throw it away or stuff it in a drawer, because it was sentimental. I went to the craft store and got a big shadowbox frame and displayed the shirt in it, along with some other high school memories (I even put my diploma in it). I don't know if that's the kind of idea you're looking for, but I just thought I'd share.

I used to sleep in mine too when I lived with roommates. But now that I live alone I sleep in my, uh...birthday suit.

My cousin did graphic designs for tshirts at her college, so needless to say she had TONS of them that she designed & signed herself, so her boyfriend had a quilt made out of them...I don't know where he had it done, but here are some examples:

www.campusquilt.com

Hers was really pretty, some of these look lame, but you get the idea. Budget Living did an article on it, I'll try to find it if you are interested. If you know someone who sews I'm sure you could get it done cheaper than $200 these yahoos are charging. And then it's a keepsake you can use as a throw on your couch or something. I am saving some tshirts so I can make one - on my list of "to do" craft projects.

You can also google "tshirt quilt" & browse - i got a ton of hits

Yep!  My grandmother made a quilt out of mine too!  You can find people to make them for you.  They turn out really cute.  My grandmother did one side of the quilt in the backs of the shirts and one side of the quilt in the front of the shirts.

I've seen others that are only one sided...I think that is a little cheaper if you don't have a lot to spend on it.

I suggest going into a sewing store and asking about it.  A lot of times the people that work in there can either do it or know a quilter that can.

I just use them to sleep in and hang around in the house in.  This works for me because I always want to save my cute sleepwear for occasions when people will see me.  I do have a bunch of letter shirts that are too small to sleep in from my sorority days that I want to do something with.  I keep saying I will give them to some of the active members I hang around with when I see them.
