I know this probably belongs in the Home area but I figured more people would read it here. I am looking for a sofa for my living room and I keep running into 2 fabrics that I am unsure about.
Does anyone have a sofa that is 100% cotton? Do you like it? How is it holding up?
Does anyone have a sofa that is that new microfiber or durabella? I keep hearing that it is stain resistent and fabulous but when I see the showroom pieces they look like hell and have awful wear on them! So are you happy with it? Is it stain resistant? How is it holding up?
Is the 100% cotton sofa canvas? What color is it? I would stay away from very light colors (though beige might work okay) if you go with cotton. They can look dingy and show stains.
We just bought a microsuede sofa - we love it! I know what you mean about some in the showrooms looking worn though. I really like the microsuede because it repels water and stains and cat hair comes off easily. We got a dark olive green color.
Have you considered chenille? What stores have you looked at?

Hey LSU, I just bought a new microfiber sofa. Boop has one and she loves it (I am speaking for her). So far her sofa has not stained from ketchup, blood, or baby vomit! When I heard that, I was sold.
I've looked at every furniture store in town! The color I'm looking at is a light neutral color - khaki or beige but not a darker neutral. I am trying to semi match 2 chairs I inherited.
Here are the 2 I've narrowed it down to. I almost feel like it doesn't really matter because if it looks bad after a few years I can slipcover it anyways. Maybe I shouldn't think that way.
This one is from Ashley Furniture and going for $549 with the sleeper sofa (parent's request):
100% cotton - pretty sure its canvas
This one is from Haverty's Furniture and is going for $849 with the sleeper sofa.
This is the same cotton/canvas
They are pretty close so I'm thinking if its a decent material to just go with the cheaper one at $549 and get a nice kitchen table and chairs with the other $300 I was planning to spend.
This is the durapella sofa that I was looking at and the color. Can't remember the price point but was $800 or less.
I have the first sofa you posted! Too funny. It's four years old now, and holding up pretty well (considering my ex was a slob who dropped food all over it). I scotch guarded it when we got it, spot cleaned it when necessary, and vacuumed it regularly. It's not showroom quality, but it looks pretty good. And it should be fine for a few more years, which is pretty good for $500.
Oh, and everyone always comments on how comfortable my couch is.
I have a microfiber couch and love it. It's a moss green color and shows no wear whatsoever. It has zero stains, even after pet mishaps and food spills.
Hi Lsu, I'm not sure about a couch that's 100% cotton, but the couch I bought a year ago is microfiber and it's amazing. My klutzy boyfriend spilled soda on it last week. I freaked out and ran to get a towel, but when I got back, I found that the liquid hadn't even absorbed into the fabric - it just sat on top. Our couch isn't treated with any kind of stain resister, either. It doesn't look worn to me, either. There are no weird marks on the fabric on the places we sit the most.
