7/1 Weekend NonShoppers Unite!

Hugs and love to all the girls on shopping bans! How are you all doing so far?

I am doing quite well, despite...uhh...window shopping in Beverly Hills today. Weirdly enough...there was nothing I really wanted or was terribly interested in. I didn't buy anything  and I didn't go over my $20 cash allotment for the week (bus fare + emergencies...no more eating out all the time!).

My BF took me out tonight for my (delayed) birthday dinner and we had a blast. For the rest of this weekend I have plenty of things to do

  • clean my apartment

  • weed through wardrobe and get rid of things...

  • go see movie with BF (probably Bewitched...he's paying)

  • probably go to a BBQ and see fireworks

  • BF's brother has a birthday dinner

Girls, we can be strong!

I had my "Last Supper" at Target yesterday, so no more shopping til August.  I only spent about $25 though, and I bought a white skirt that I needed for an event (and some pink ballet flats that I'd been eyeing--they were on sale).  Okay, that's it.

I'm doing good too.

Yesterday I had the day off and went to have lunch w/ my DH.  I passed so many cute shops on my way to his office and it was so hard not to walk in.  I was doing all this cheesy, self affirming stuff.  Like smiling to myself and saying in my head, "I have control, I can do this!"

This is going to be hard.  I've been on a lot of shopping "diets", but never really had to say completely NO shopping.

Hang in there everyone!

Didn't buy anything this past week & am only going to stores to return stuff that didn't work today.  I'm also going to clean out my closet tomorrow & donate what I don't want.  Thankfully, I'm hitting a BBQ on Monday, so it'll keep me out of the stores.

Hang in there everyone!

I didn't spend a single dime yesterday, nor will I today since I will be working until tonight.  I am also bringing a tv dinner to work so I don't spend twice as much getting something to go for my dinner.

This time my shopping ban may work with this group.  I usually only last one week when it's suppose to be a month.  I know there is stuff out there that I am dying to have, even though I don't know what it is yet, but it's best to stay away from all retail shops.

Tomorrow I will be preparing my ebay stuff.  Hopefully I can gather a good size pile!  When the money from my ebay proceeds deposit into my paypal account, I will immediatly transfer to my bank account.  Letting it sit in paypal makes it too good of an excuse to find things to buy on ebay!

Thanks for starting the thread Lilykind!  I'm doing good too.  Believe it or not, last night, I had to go shopping with my FH for a shirt to wear to see Wicked tonight and I did not buy one thing!  It was hard but I did it.

The rest of the weekend, I'm busy, so I should be fine.  Going to see Wicked and then to bbq's - so far away from retail stores.

We can totally do this girls!

I would like to join starting tomorrow!! I assume necessary items are permitted? Can we define necessary items?? For example, I am nearly out of tinted moisturiser. Is this allowed? I am thinking this shopping ban extends to shoes and clothes only?

I too am doing pretty good, even IF yesterday was PAYDAY for me. All I brought (from someone else mentioning them in another thread) those plastic see-thru shoe boxes from Family Dollar & Dollar General, and TWO butterfly hair clips. I TOLD MYSELF (why I joined the shopping ban) no clothes/shoes/jewelry, and I have NOT brought any since I committed! LOL I have TWO mos. to not buy any clothes/shoes/jewelry, and it IS going to be hard, but think of all the MONEY I will save by my b-day month of September?! Ahhhhhh. Even my man and I were out and about earlier today, passing A LOT of shopping centers, but we just kept on driving......

It can be whatever you like, sage.  You can set your own goals and rules for yourself.  A lot of us do no clothes, shoes, or jewelry, and make up only if we need to replace stuff.  Others extend it to eating out and cds/dvds.  It is really up to you.

My list will include: cds and books ( my big weaknesses), clothes, shoes, accesories, and magazines. I will allow necessary beauty products (replacement items only). Okay, I can do this with everyone. Be strong!! We will succeed!!

Could everyone share their favorite non-shopping strategy?? When the glossy mags and preeeeety books are calling I will need a mantra to chant or something.!!

So far, so good - my "last hurrah" was Friday, and I didn't even find much cute stuff that I wanted to buy when I was out.  I know I'm going to go crazy in August when this is over though - fall things should be coming out by then. *s*

The hardest part will be eBay...but I've told my husband about the ban so HAVE to keep in line, because I'll never live it down if I cave.

The only thing I am allowing myself to buy is food and replacement toiletries.  It goes beyond clothes for me.  No buying cute and this and that's at Target!  If I get anything, my bf is paying for it!  He just brought home a 10x12 e-z set up gazebo tent with the connectable screen from Target.   Much nicer than the other one we have that you have to put the damn poles together.   We are going to get a small filtered pool to set in that one.   So now the stuff I bought at the end of last summer (and haven't used yet) at Target is coming in handy.   I have put down the large plastic woven pink mat, along with the pink floor cushion.  We will have to go out later and get a couple plants to put in it along with one of those battery operated paper lamps to hang inside.  I will be leaving my wallet at home!

I'm doing well also. I haven't purchased one thing. I have about $10 for the rest of the weekend to spend, but I'm guessing that will be gone after tonight.

I almost caved yesterday and gave in to the allure of a bright, shiny new lipgloss from sephora because of the date cancellation but alas, i refrained.

If only I could avoid "entertainment" expenses!

Doing fine, so far I have only spent money for grocery. And yesterday I went to the library to get a card and borrowed a book from Suze Orman, about finances. It is very motivating, even though not everything applies to me; it is an eye-opener anyway. She is a little over the top, esp on her TV show, but she says smart things.

Today I should write this damn paper (it's beautiful outside and I just want to lay-sp?- under the sun!), came to work to pick up some more papers to get inspired by

And tomorrow I' am invited to a BBQ (there's a swimming pool in the house where we are going to !), so I won't have chance to shop! Gotta buy some fruits to bring to the BBQ, tho!

Good luck to everybody, keep the good work!

Yay!! I did not buy anything today. Well...some bottled water and ice cream. We went sailing all day, no place to shop in the water!! Looks like everyone else did great this weekend too. Keep it up!

I guess the hard part is coming up. I have to return a couple of things, so my mantra for tomorrow will be "Return, not exchange" ohhhmmmm. Or, wait, does the shopping ban extend to things i bought before the ban started?? Hmmmm, I am seeing a loophole. Nooooo....I will return the items and not get new ones. I am strong.

I'd like to jump on the non-shopping wagon My goal is not to shop until Aug.1st. I do need to buy new hairclips and shampoo things, so these are allowed... Like Sage, I also need to return some items (will do tomorrow, need to be strong and NOT exchange!!!)

Good luck to everyone!

I only bought a newspaper(doesn't count as a magazine!! News is important)today. Very proud. Didn't return those items today as I wasnt feeling strong enough. But...I passed a rack of discounted Steve Madden sandals (20.00), I even tried a pair on(shoe porn) and kept on going. Wheeeee. I can do this. The real test will be Thursday when the new mags come out at the newsstand. I think I will just have to stay away. I will be returning those things tomorrow because if I can pass up those shoes I can do anything. Rock on, Shopping Ban Sisters!!

Uh-oh, I cracked already.

The BF and I went to our parents' and I forgot my sunglasses, which I needed since I spent a lot of time outdoors this weekend, so I bought a pair for about $25.

I promise (mostly to myself) that I will not buy anything that I don't need (cleaning supplies, toiletries) for one month.  Ideally, I would like to expand this ban until the end of August, because by that time, my BF will be helping out with rent.

This really is so hard

To jacL: I wouldn't consider buying those sunglasses breaking your ban.  Eye protection is important, and you didn't spend much considering your emergency!

Yesterday we went to Costco.  My first time in that store.  There was at least 10 things I wanted (like a lambskin rug for only $30) but passed on.  I could not believe the deals!  Since there is only two of us, we really can't buy all of our grocery in there since it would spoil before we could eat it.  But we did get things like a huge size downy fabric softner...stuff we will for sure use up.  This will save money in the long run!

I still have not spent a dime (of my own money) since July 1st!  Good thing my bf is generous!  I haven't decided if I should hold out on shopping until August or September.  Though, the thing to remember is when time comes to shop again, to not go on a huge spree to make up for all that time not shopping!  You wouldn't have gotten anywhere with the whole ban!  I must be more frugal as well.

Well I stuck to my requirements for the shopping ban.  I went to Houston this weekend to look around and find furniture for the apt that I'm moving into but struck out there.  Furniture just costs way too much! I found 1 sofa that wasn't outrageously priced but I just don't know.

I ended up buying a down comforter at IKEA $50 (on my list), a shower curtain at BB&B $25 (on my list), a black A-line skirt at the BR outlet $27 (on the list), and a pair of closed toe brown shoes at the Kenneth Cole outlet $20 (on the list).

All with left over book buyback money and graduation money! I'm doing pretty well with rationing out my cash and selling stuff on half.com

It was just so tempting because I went to DSW and they had great finds, Last Call, Off Saks 5th, the list goes on.  I just hate having to buy work clothes and not fun clothes.
