your opinions on this suit?

I am very drawn to this suit, but I would just like some opinions on it.  It is a Vogue pattern that I am toying with making.  It looks very Nanetete Lepore-ish to me, but at the same time, I have a love/hate relationship with suits.  I still get visions of those horrible shapeless department store suits I used to wear before I started visiting stylethread and learned better fashion.  What do you think of this?

Totally looks like Nanette to me.  I love it, tho I don't wear suits that often.  I'm not loving the fabric they used in the picture, but if you are making it yourself, I would get something high quality and it could look stunning.

I agree. Not digging the fabric, but the details on the skirt and the back of the jacket are lovely.

I have a few Nanette Lapore suits and dresses and when I saw the pic (before reading your posts) I thought it looked like one of her pieces.  I like it!!

What kind of fabric do you think it would look good made out of?  I was kind of bothered by their choice, too.

I like it but the back view has too much going on. The jacket detail and skirt detail together look kind of mismatched and fussy. I would skip one of them.

I think the fabric pictured works. If it's not a conservative, fairly plain fabric it will start to look too ladies-who-lunch. In the gabardine or whatever it is, it is totally officeworthy. (Assuming that's how you want to wear it.)

ITA w/ Suasoria. It's that back flap on the jacket that's bugging me. There's just too much going on between that and the pleats in the back of the skirt (which I love).

As far as fabric goes, I also like the one they chose. I think a tweed would be too heavy and those pleats wouldn't lay flat. The grey is a little on the boring side, but I'd stick with something made of lightweight wool.

Agree also- I'd skip the back detailing of the jacket and make the sleeves straight and not poufy.
