What is your shopping method?

I could almost swear this question has been asked before, but I will ask anyway.

Do you shop a little all along or do you go on a couple of big seasonal sprees per year?  Or, do you do both?  The past couple of years I have gone on big seasonal sprees, but since I have gotten my wardrobe pretty well built up, I think I am going to start just buying a little all along and only things I think I can't live without. (Maybe I can stick to that)

I am so picky, that I constantly shop.  If I went out shopping only 4 times a year I would be naked since when I intentially go shopping for stuff, I go home empty handed.  I browse my favorite stores at least weekly.   I kind of "stalk" stores that has something I would like, but not pay full price for.  If it's the last one I may get it.  I usually wait out for it to go on sale or until I have a coupon.

I usually write a little list on a post-it on my computer- updating it for the different seasons based on what kind of looks I want to work for that season.  The things I am looking for are usually fairly specific, and I don't settle.  I'd rather not have an item on my list than have a so-so item.  On my list this season: black suede plain flats (no bows or pleats or anything), red puff sleeve military style jacket- twill or sateen, black pea coat or belted long wool coat, long tunic length grey boyfriend style cashmere/wool vneck sweater, slouchy black or cognac colored boots, a victorian style lacy shirt with high neck, cardigan that is thick and warm that I can throw over anything, really cool bag in the $500 range- big and slouchy, to replace irreplaceable Coach bag  , another pair of well fitting jeans, slouchy grey, plaid, or tweed trousers, really cool/avant guarde button down shirts

I then cross things out as I get them, and if I don't get them, I dont' stress about it.  Sometimes I look back at my list and think, I don't even WANT this anymore, though I'm not sure that will happen to the list above, because most of it is what I wanted LAST year but couldn't find.  Funny how fashion really doesn't change all that much, especially since I tend to like classics with a unique edge.

I do the same thing, I just shop all the time instead of just doing a couple of sprees a year. I'm probably shopping every week, even if some of it is just window shopping. I always think I have the seasonal stuff I wanted, but then after I get it, more stuff comes out that I like! That's why I constantly shop...

Wow! That is so much like what I do, it's scary! I keep a list on my computer and bold things out when I get them. I add and delete as seasons/whatnot come along. But it's always an on-going list...

Yup, its always on-going.  I bold things out too- I am trying to find the command for a strike-through. CTRL + something?

Method? What's that?

My closet is ruled by chaos theory.

I think I'm just like you, CarrieS, I shop ALLL the time, and to heck with doing a couple of shopping sprees a year, hence my over-crowded closets. LOL I do know that I tend to shop more in the Spring/Summer than any other time of the year; I love to window shop also, but I usually end up buying SOMETHING, just so I won't go home empty-handed. LOL

there is no method to my madness. i go shopping all the time, most of the time it's window shopping, but i really like to get an idea of what's out there and work from there.

i try to stick to things i need, but most of the time i think in terms of general themes or outfits i'd like to create and then look for the various elements i need to make the outfit. i usually have spurts where i shop a lot and then spurts where i don't. like i'm probably going to shop more in july to round out my summer stuff and then hold off until october. but we'll see what happens.

Like Lynnie, I keep a pretty specific list of things that I want to add to my wardrobe.  I tend to browse online pretty regularly and they hit the brick and mortar if I see something online that I want to try on.

I work in an area that has a lot of shopping around, so I do most of my shopping during my lunch hour.  It is partially a way to get out of the office for a little bit, but also allows me to stalk the sale racks at Nordstrom and Anthropology.

Lynnie - I've been looking for a Victorian style lace blouse for like a year!  It's an obsession I won't be able to get over until I find one.

I forgot to add that I also keep a list.  Right now on my list for fall is:

deep purple blazer (either velvet or suede)

yellow suede heels

leopard heels

you ladies are definitely organized! i guess while i love clothes, i don't really care enough about anything to be so decisive about it. once in awhile i'll see something in a magazine i love and stalk it until it's mine, but usually my clothes are found randomly either at thrifts (not so random, since i go specifically to look through clothes but with no "goal" in mind), target or out and about in the mall.

I shop almost every day! I usually buy what I like or have something particular in mind that I am looking for.

Ditto!  I have no method and thus no true "outfits" in my closet.  So many separates...so little that works together.
