Sorry if I sound whiny, but I can't believe what just happened to me on the El (train in chicago) - I was on my way into work just now and the train was packed. I was standing there and, keep in mind it was crowded. So I feel something on my butt...I turned around and thought maybe it was the guy's bag behind me...nope, then I felt a hand on my ass! I turned around and he smiled, and I said "Can you stop grabbing my ass?" He smirked..I turn back around and move over a little and he moves too and grabs my ass again. I turned around and slapped him across the face. I couldn't believe it. Was I wrong to slap him? He got off the train at the next stop.
Sorry if I sound stupid..I just felt so violated...it was so gross! And the worst part is, he thought it was funny.
Oh my gosh, that is terrible! I would have slapped him too! I'm sorry that happened to you. What country is it where they have to have separate trains for men and women because the women kept being violated? Scary. . .

that's terrible! good for you for slapping him! that is the perfect response, IMO. he deserved that and worse. you know what, i bet most girls in that situation would wish later that they had slapped the guy, so you should be proud of yourself! hell, i'm proud of you! i don't know if i would have the wherewithal to respond that way if it happened to me.
was he a creepy old guy or a stupid teenage boy, or did he look gross at all? how did people react on the El? what did he do after you slapped him? sorry about all my questions -- i am just so impressed right now that you slapped him!

Thanks for the support girls. I just felt so taken advantage of, so I wasn't about to let him get away with it.
Scarlett - he wasn't old at all - he was probably in his late twenties...a hispanic guy. A few of the guys standing around me got in his face after I slapped him, so he got off at the next stop..everyone laughed at him when I slapped him.

I should have punched him, but my first reaction was just to smack him across the face. I"m proud of myself for doing that much!
ew. I am so sorry! I had a similar situation once and it really freaked me out. Good for you for slapping him!! I wish I could have done that in my situation but I was too scared.
yeah, that is awesome! i am glad to hear people got in his face after you slapped him and that you had some support from the other passengers. it's nice to have help when you've experienced something so violating and shocking.
I'm glad you slapped him - and you definitely weren't wrong to do so! What he did is sexual assault - legally. Many sexual predators "get off" on grabbing or brushing up against women in public. Ick.

That's so gross but I'm glad that you stood up for yourself!
I've been groped so many times on public transportation and I was always so shocked and embarrassed that I never did anything other than quickly move away from the guy, and of course always regretted at least not saying something.
shopchicago, kudos to you. not only did you fight back against being violated but you slapped that guy for all the girls who've had that happen to them and not reacted as quickly and courageously as you. and good for your fellow passengers for giving him hell too.
once, when i was 15 and visiting Bangladesh (where my family is from), my mom, aunt, cousin and i were in an open market/bazaar and somehow i got separated because i lingered too long at a shop and some guy tried to grab my a** and instead of slapping him i just ran and yelled for my mom and when i caught up with them i told them what happened and when i asked my cousin if it had ever happened to her she said "all the time." it made me so sick to think she had to put up with that! ugh, if i could go back i would have socked that guy!

Thank you
I'm really sorry that happened to you and your sister in the past too. I'm sorry that it has to happen to women period.
