In honor of all the talk of internet daing on the dating & relationships board, ABC has a new show called "hooking up" that starts July 14th - follows 12 women into the world of internet dating. Since I am married, is it wrong that I am highly intrigued by this & like to live vicariously through these ladies. I'm so curious - can't wait to see what happens

Should be interesting altough I don't know why they call it that because for girls of my generation hooking up means sleeping with someone the night you meet them or doing it with some guy at a party or something. Doesnt' sound very good as a tv show title. So funny because right when I saw the title for your topic I was like "why would someone post something about sleeping with someone in the entertainment section and not the relationship section?" lol

Hmmm, I'm 28 and when my peers used that term, it just meant, "getting together with.'  It can also mean, "making out," but we never used it to mean sex.  Interesting that it is being used that way these days. 


I've never heard of the show.  I just wanted to respond to the hook up comment.  I must be getting old. I don't know any of the cool words anymore.  Cool probably isn't even used anymore.

And if hooking up meant "making out" I feel much better about all the "hooking up" I did in college!

i think hooking up is one of those ambiguous phrases that can either mean just making out or having sex.  i always thought it just meant making out but my friend says some people use it to mean further than that.  whatever, it's still a weird title for an internet dating special.

its such a weird phrase. to me, hooking up= casual sex. I am always taken aback for a minute when I hear someone say something like "eay, I'm going to hook up with him later". Either way, probably not the best name for a show.


And I thought I was gonna get some juicy gossip in this thread.

i'm 23 and to me "hooking up" means either meeting up (as in "ya, we'll hook up later & go over the details") or somewhere between making out & sex, but NOT including sex.  i've never heard it used that way & i think the title is clever because u "hook up" a computer so it all ties together!
