So we had to cancel our trip to Maui this year . SO got a new job and isn't able to take the time off. I'm disappointed but trying to look on the bright side...
SO really likes his new job.
The money we were going to put towards our trip can now go towards our debt which should be debt-free by the new year.
I now have extra vacation days to use up this year.
So things aren't so bad, I guess. Could be a lot worse.

I do understand your disappointment for something you were waiting. But you did it already: look at the bright side! It's very lucky to have a job, and a loved one, at this time. Same thing for being debt-free. Besides, I am sure you guys will be able to have a longer, better trip!
Can you take a couple of days off by yourself and do something fun to make up for it? A spa day maybe? That's great that he likes his job and being debt free will probably feel better than Maui!

Aww. I'm sorry to hear about missing the trip. But it's great that you can make something positive out of it. Maui is amazing, but there really is nothing better than being debt free.
Ahem, extra vacation days? Wanna sneak out of work for week and come to Nova Scotia with me?
Also, I'm totally bummed for you about Maui but dude! SO likes his job? That's freaking fantastic news! Screw Hawaii, if SO is happy, than it's totally worth it.

Canceling vacation is the worst. I had to cancel mine last year and it was so disappointing and heartbreaking since we had the plane tickets bought. It all worked out for the best though so I'm hoping the same for you.
what a bummer. but that's great about your SO's job, and getting ahead with your finances - reduced stress is priceless. Maui will always be there later!

Aw, I'm sorry. That really sucks. But it's great that your SO has a good job and you're chipping away at your debt. That will probably make you feel better than the vacation (in the long run).
