i think if your loans are w/ sallie mae, you have to consolidate through them, there's something special about sallie mae that you can't consolidate w/ any other company (i think).

I had some loans that were managed by Sallie Mae - I originally got them through another loan guarantor. Anyway, I was able to consolidate these through the Federal Government (Direct Loans). However, I already had loans through them as well.

I am in PA, I don't know if other states do this, but if you go to aes.com you can get a lot of help. I just consolidated through them, basically because it felt more comfortable that going through a company that I didn't know anything about. I got 3.37% and a .25% reduction for doing autodebit.
