5/5/5 - Is anyone doing anything special for it?  Going out to get Mexican food or cooking up some Mexican food at home?

Next year (2006) June 6, 2006 will be 6/6/6 - oooh scary!!

Nothing special maybe a party tonight at a Mexican restaurant.

Kind of a funny story though- there is a potluck at my mom's work today. She told me last night that the doctors were all brining in food to pass for the nurses and staff and it was going to be a "breakfast potluck". We tried to figure out something breakfasty to bring and pass and she decided on cheesy hash browns- so so so good! She comes home in between cases today and tells me that she misunderstood apparently they were having a "Mexican potluck". Which my mom and I both thought was a little random- I have never heard of a Mexican themed potluck. She left and went back to work and a few mins after she left I called her and told her it is Cinco de Mayo today and that is why you were suppose to make a Mexican dish. Duh... that totally went right over our heads.

Heck yeah!!! I live in Tejas and we seriously celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Yum, yum, tex-mex! I'm definitely going for margaritas after work and out dancing later. We'll see what falls in between. ; )

I know there's a festival downtown, so maybe I'll stroll over this afternoon to take a break from work. Fun!

heehee - I forget that you're Canadian sometimes, Mia. Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for the May 5th (duh!). It's a celebartion of the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. It's kinda like Bastille Day for the French. It's a day to celebrate Mexican unity and freedom.

And the 6th thing is just creepy because the date will be June 6, 2006 aka 6/6/06 aka 666. Get it - the number of the beast?

Ooooh yummy, Cesar's!  Salud is in my hood girl.  We thought of going there, but we are going to go to Amelia's on Grand and Ogden instead.  (I have a coupon, hee-hee.)

Hardly anyone in Mexico celebrates it though. My aunt it Mexican and she said she didn't know it was even celebrated before she moved to the U.S. She thought it was kind of funny because it is just another day in most of Mexico, but here it is a day to get drunk.

You're telling me!

RyanJ- Most of the 'real' Mexicans here in AZ don't celebrate it either. They celebrate the real Mexican Independence Day in Sept. (I think that's when it is). They call it Cinco de Drinko. LOL

"Cinco de drinko..." heh.

I am always amused about these "ethnic" drinking holidays. On St Patrick's day I drive home and see huge lines outside the Irish bars. Today driving home, huge waits outside of Mexican restaurants. And all of these non-Irish and non-Mexican people get all psyched to go out and drink green beer or margaritas from a mix because that's what you do.

All that said, I got a black bean quesedilla and mexican rice for dinner from Whole Foods. I couldn't help myself. You see? Nobody is immune.
