We had a fun day yesterday at a sanctuary for rescued farm animals. This goose knew how to strike a pose.
This young pig was very interested in whatever my friend had in her purse.
While some emus can be dangerous, this guy, named Forest, likes to have his neck rubbed.
The goats were all so cute, I couldn't stop taking pictures of them. They are all sizes, all colors, and all super friendly. It's amazing how these animals have learned to like and trust people again after the backgrounds they come from.
The sheep were also very accommodating about posing for photos. They're very pretty, and most would have been served with mint jelly if they hadn't been seized from a slaughterhouse that was being shut down.
This is Maggie Moo, who was rescued from a neglectful owner. She was attacked by a coyote and her owner attempted to duct tape a 24-inch gash on her side instead of calling a vet to suture it. Her wounds were infected and covered with maggots, and she was underweight when the local animal control was notified. Here she gets a crunchy snack from a visitor. She is so photogenic it was hard to pick just one.
This big Brahma bull is quite unusual, but he kept to himself so I couldn't get a good picture. Check out the hump and all the loose skin.
Chickens abound, just like this cute girl. They're a little bit like cats, they just go anywhere they please. Before being rescued, most of these chickens spent their lives packed in small wire cages to produce eggs. After about two years they are considered "spent" (they no longer lay eggs), and they're killed, even though their normal lifespan can be ten years or so. There are about 75 rescued egg layers running around, lucky to be able to feel the sun and the earth.
Great pictures! There's a farm like this in Louisville, KY, but in the past couple years a lot of animals have left for some reason...there's no information anywhere so I'm not sure why, but I miss the camels :(
That is so sad what happened to that poor cow. I cannot imagine trying to duct tape such a wound back together!

Thanks for sharing. It's always great when organizations like this can find a way to make what they do personal, educational and enjoyable at the same time.
