So for the past few months we have been looking to get a dog. I sent this breeder an email after seeing her ad in our paper. Its an Italian greyhound, one left- a male, 7 weeks old, about 10 to 15 lbs once grown. The breed would be perfect for us. But she wants $1200 for him (including neuturing, first vet check, shots and some random stuff). That seems like a lot, but I know pups can be expensive. Should I pay that much for a puppy?

Sorry the pic won't post

That's a good price, especially since it includes neutering.  That alone is a few hundred dollars.

I can't see the picture.

Oh my god he is Adorable!!!!

If you have the money to spend on a dog then I think it is worth it. Just make sure she is a reputable breeder. Are the AKC puppies? You could also ask for some names of people who have bought puppies from her before and call or email them and ask them how their dogs are doing.

I'm not familiar with the breed or the price they go for but if you are wondering if that is a standard price google the breed and look at other breeders online and what they charge.  That way you can see if that is in the normal range or over or underpriced.  If underpriced it may be that there is something wrong with the dog.  Also if you do buy one take it immediately to a vet you are comfortable with to get checked out.  You don't want a defective dog and you won't be able to get your money back if something happens that you could have found out when you first got it.

if you do decide to purchase the puppy you might suggest going with her to the vet's office while he/she is neutered and ask the vet about the breeder's background.  if she does this for all of her puppies then he should be fairly experienced with her breeding skills.

Just make sure she is a reputable breeder - ask for refs, ask a lot of questions, Google her and her business etc.

IG's are supposed to be very good with city living. My little doxie's enemy is an IG who lives down the street. They both shriek up a storm whenever they see each other. IG's are super cute, though, and v. small!

I actually think that's a good price, especially if it's a reputable breeder.  I got my Bailey (Maltese breed) for $2,000 and have not regretted!

also, I have to mention this -- have you checked into greyhound rescue? They may have Italian Greyhounds.

They do have Italian Greyhound Rescue groups. They would be a great place to look also. We had two Greyhouds there were racing dogs and there were such awesome dogs.
