Tonight at 6. For the girls who have it, is it really painful? How long will my shoulder be sore?

Whish me good luck, hope I don't chicken out at the last minute!

cool what are you getting? sometimes i wish i had tats but i always change my mind so i know i would hate it after a while. i once had a dream that i had a tat of a piece of toast with a bite taken out of it!

your shoulder isn't has bad as other places (e.i. ribs) but i don't think it's as soft as places like your butt. just take some aleve before and after. everyone i know who has had ink done says it's not so bad.

post a pic when it's done!

Oh, dot, I didn't know the softer the area the less painful! Thanks.

And yeah, I forgot I thought about taking some painkiller, thanks for reminding me.

It's going to be a small butterfly, in the landing position (from the side, but you can see both wings), purple and black, on my right shoulder, as if she was landing on my shoulder. I have thought about this very long time.

I'll try to post a picture when the swelling is gone.

Later on I'll want a fish too. If any of you comes across a cool image of a fish, please post it or send it to me!

Thanks

I have one on my shoulder and didn't have much pain during the actual process.  I have a really high threshold for pain tho, none of my tattoos have hurt.

The hard part w/ a shoulder tattoo is that if it scabs over right at the point where your shoulder bends (mine does) then it is hard to move your arm for a few days while it is healing.

It sounds like a beautiful tattoo.  Have fun!

Thanks luckylili. What do you mean at the point where the shoulder bends? May be I didn't day it right. I said shoulder, but it's actually between the shoulderblade and the base of the neck (I confused even myself now)

I think it does hurt!  And it takes quite a long time (mine took ~ 1 hour).  For me, it actually hurt more afterwards.  It gets all scabby and when it rubs against your clothes it hurts

Maybe I am a baby.........

I have one below my waist on my right side of my backside and that hurt! I had to tell the guy to stop at one point and had to take a breather.

I also have one on the back of my neck and that one didn't hurt as much. Just keep in mind that since your getting color, your going to have to get a touch up in a couple of years because the color does start to fade in time. I've had mine for 9 years and i've been holding off to get it done again! but i want to this summer:)

next one i get will be black, i believe for some reason that does not fade.....

Luck!

I'm so psyched you're getting a tat!!! I've always wanted one but I'm always afraid I'll change my mind. You might be encouraging me to do it anyway. I want a four-leaf clover (yes I know it's not tough but I'm Irish and I spent my childhood searching for four-leaf clovers) on my right back hip.

You HAVE to tell me all about it and especially how cool it is so I can be convinced to bite the bullet and actually go for it. I'm so jealous! Post pics when you get it.

Sure!

As soon as I go home, I'll write a full report (if internet is working, of course!).

Ah, that spot probably won't be a big deal then.  Mine curves over the top of my shoulder, like if I lift my arm, the tattoo folds with the skin.  When it was healing the scab would crack if I moved around too much and I had to be really careful. \

Be sure to post a photo.  I love tattoos.

I love tattoos...I have three of them...you kind of do become addicted after you get one...the outline of the tattoo hurts the most....it does hurt, but not too bad...If the tattoo is going to be detailed it will take a while...my first one, a sunflower on the left side of my mid back took about 1 hour and a half....
have soooo much fun!!!

I have a butterfly on my lower back, at my spine. It didn't tickle, but I wouldn't classify it as pain either. I think it feels more like a cat scratch.

Don't freak out when the color comes off in the shower, it's just the ink that dried oin the skin with the slight scab. (my roommate and I got one at the same time, and she started shrieking from the shower. I had to reassure her 100 times that it was still there.)

Bluebirde! I just came back!.

First point , I am very happy with my butterfly.

I would say its not painful at all, it's just a feel of disconfort. It itches a little now.

Bonus point: the guy was EXTREMELY good looking. And very good too, the tattoo looks really pretty and he gave me suggestions on the best place to have it. He said when it's completely healed the colors will look much brighter, and also that there will be some time in a week when itll look very bad. He said also not to wear anythig that rubs on it, so I might have to wear a sports bra for a week !

Ill post you girls about it when its completely healed, and try to get a pic!

Tia for your encouragement!

I have 4 tats but only 2 of them hurt like hell. The best thing to do is obviously not to scratch or pick at the scabs (when they start to scab) and DO NOT let your tattoo dry out!! I made that mistake on one of mine and I had extreme color loss. There's this really great stuff called Tattoo Goo that runs about 5 or 6 bucks that works really well and it's quite soothing.  You can get it off the internet or your hot tattoo guy might sell it there.  I'll try to post the site I got it from.  Enjoy your new ink!

Oooh, I am so happy for you! Congrats!

I have always wanted a tattoo like that-- did you know that when a butterfly lands on your shoulder, its good luck?

On a side note, I just got my belly-button pierced yesterday! I feel so proud of myself.

Amelie, I din't know about the good luck, but I had done some research on the role of the Butterfly Spirit in the Native American culture: it's really interesting, after that I have decided that I want to read some books of native american myths and stories...

About the piercing: was it painful? My sister has it, it's really pretty, but I don't have the tummy  for a belly button piercing (mine will always be round, no matter what).

Thanks, Rosie, I think I'll buy this stuff, even if for now it's late: I am using the stuff that the hot guy suggested. But I'll keep this other one for the fish, which is going to happen probably next month.

thanks again!
