I can't stand it a second longer. I have to tell someone.
My SO and I are getting married this week!
We talked about it last night and decided to just do it. So many things have kept us from doing this for so long (we have been engaged for almost 6 years), and we just got sick of it. Tomorrow SO is going to buy us wedding rings and tomorrow afternoon we are going to get our marriage liscense. We have to wait three days, but we can schedule an appt. for the ceramony at town hall while we are getting the liscense tomorrow. We both agree we really like keeping this a secret; it makes it seem special and fully ours.
Hopefully by the end of the week I will be a married woman!
my best friend from high school just did the same thing...she and her hubby have been together for 9 years, but only engaged for a few months...they'd always planned to go to vegas to get married, but one day last month they just decided to do it. so they went to rhode island and found a little chapel, and now they're married!
i'm excited for you! congratulations!

Thanks, ladies. I was starting to feel guilty for spilling the beans, but noone "in real life" will find out until it's already done...
ISUBG, We had lots of plans: going to Jamiaca, doing it in a little chapel on the beach with only immediate family & closest friends, but mostly we just kept putting it off. We didn't want to plan anything or even have a party. We were going to do things for our family, not for us. This way is all us. I feel really good about it... I just don't know what to wear!
My husband and I eloped as well. Actually, our parents knew that we were doing it, but we didn't invite them to the ceremony. Relationships and weddings are such personal things, they don't necessarily need to be shared with other people.

I did the same exact thing, Drew - and my thinking behind it was the same as well. I'm also glad it was just us (courthouse office workers as witnesses) because it was pretty emotional, and I really wouldn't want the whole world there watching me.
I too tossed around the idea of what to wear - it really doesn't matter what you wear or what the color is (that's all societal perception). I just wore my favorite dress - which happened to be black

Congratulations!!! If I ever get married, I might or might not have something big and fancy, but I will definitely run off and actually "get married" with a JOP and my man beforehand, just the two of us, regardless of anything else. It's just sooo romantic!
wow, congratulations! i've always thought that when the time comes, i would love to just have a small ceremony with the bf and then come back and have a party later. i know it's not for everyone, but i feel like there's better things to spend money on....i'm glad i'm not the only one who would decide to just for go the big ceremony. many many happy years together.

OMG congratulations!!! That is huge news! I am so happy for you. In a way I wish I would have done that, planning a wedding really can take the romance out of it some times. You will not regret your decision at all--it's just so romantic & private!!
