Cleaning a colored leather bag?
Permalink Closed

So earlier this month I bought my very first nice leather bag in a pretty kelly green.  I get home yesterday from riding in the backseat of my brother SUV (which looking like a tornado hit it) and there's a large brown mark across the back.  It must have rubbed up against something in the car.

Any suggestions on how to safely clean it?  I had already waterproofed it with a leather spray from Target when I first started wearing it.   I have no clue how to get the mark out.  Thanks!

sorry i don't have any diy tips, but i'd take it to a leather cleaner/shoe repair place.  i took a bag yesterday to be cleaned, it was a denim colored leather bag that had faded to a light grey and had become pretty dirty, and they told me they would clean it to get the dirty parts off but then they would have to redye it to match the orig. color.  apparently, when they clean it it strips some of the color off i think??  not sure for your situation but it might be worth taking it to a leather cleaner just to get their advice.

since you have protected your bag (and i had not) they can probably/hopefully get the mark off easily and w/o redying it.

the other thing you can do is just take a damp washcloth and a tiny bit of woollite of other liquid laundry detergent and see if it will wipe off.  make sure to get all the soap off afterwards though so it doesn't streak.  hth a little.

Thanks, Alb! I'm so ticked at it. I've only had it a month and have been so careful with it. My brother is in the process of fixing up a house he just bought so his car is a sty. I should never have brought that bag with me. I'm going to start looking for leather cleaners near me.
