I usually have my son get a plastic bag and scoop out the clumps in there and throw out the bag ouside in the trash bin. What I want is to stop using plastic bags. I can't think of how else to get out the clumps other than using plastic bags......any ideas?
I don't have a cat but I do have dogs I have to walk. I used to buy the pet bags at the pet store or target but one day I discovered Fresh Sacks in the baby aisle at Walgreens of all places! They are wonderful, about half the cost of other bags and environmentally friendly as well. I believe the price is $7.99 for 250 bags and sometimes they go on sale for $6 and I stock up.
Walgreens seems to be the only place that carries them: www.freshsacks.com

I think the flushable stuff is the stuff that doesn't clump at all .... which seems like it would sort of defeat the purpose IMO!
We get biodegradable 'plastic' bags at the natural food store (pretty cheap actually - less than $2 for 10, and we don't usually fill one per week) and use them to line our big kitchen garbage. When it's time to take out the kitchen garbage, we take the can back to the litter box, scoop, and then take out the whole shebang at once.
PetSmart sells larger pooperscooper bags meant for dogs that are biodegradable, and would probably be plenty big enough for a few litter clumps if you're scooping on a daily basis.
ETA: Vanessa - those Freshsacks sound like a great solution!

NEVERMIND everyone. I just looked closely at my fresh sacks box and it says "Degradable" not "BioDegradable". I've been using these for months and just noticed this :( Oh well. I'll have to find a better solution once I run out of these.
