long hair styles...pic...

I have super long hair (mid-back length in the back, chest length in the front, chin length bangs) and I wish I knew how to get more creative with styles. I saw this pic in the fashion thread - does anyone know how to do this, or how to do similiar casual/up styles? I lvoe all those messy French twists on the runway recently but I can't do them for myself.

Hmmm... I have pretty long hair and I put it up in messy twists quite often. I'm not sure how to do the detail in this pic though.

1. Brush hair until no tangles or grabs when you run your fingers through it

2. pull back whatever part you want up (front, side, half of back, pieces of back, all, etc.)

3. smooth the top so there are no really large lumps or problems (don't smooth too much, you still want it to look natural)

4. wrap the pulled back part in a loose bun (sometimes I only do half of it in a bun so there will be more of the hair free flowing)

5. take some hair sticks or tools or whatever you use and stick them down through the bun and then push them back up through the pile of hair and then back down again

6. Loosen some pieces around the front and in the back to hang down. If you leave a few long strands hanging in the back, give them a quick curl so they stay with the messy look. (I LOVE the look of all my hair up except for a few really long pieces in the back that I curl and pull around so they sit on my shoulders, just so.)

Play with this method and you'll get all kinds of cool looks. I sometimes push my hair sticks up and through my hair six or seven times and sometimes I just do it once. (The more times, the messier the up-do.)

Practice, practice, practice! The more you do it, the better you get at it.

I just use ton's of bobby pins placed in randomly.  They can be easily hidden if you place them just so.  And don't be afraid to really use a ton of bobby pins; I can't stress this enough.  Sometimes I will put my hair in a loose pony tail before creating the messy bun look just for extra hold.
