Yea I have a job!!!

I graduate in May with a degree in Industrial Engineering and I have 2 job offers that I am considering.  One is with JB Hunt and I would be doing consulting.  The other is with BNSF- I have heard mainly bad things about them so I was wondering if anyone knew anything.  Thanks.

Well, I've had many friends go to BNSF.  One of my friends really moved quickly up the ladder with them and is very happy, but the others, not so much.

In terms of JB Hunt, I met Mr. Hunt once on one of his ranches west of where my parents live in the Flint Hills of KS.  Can't tell you anything about the company, but he reminded me of some old rancher you would see on "Dallas" back in the day and was a very nice man!

Where would you have to live for the jobs?  Will that play into your decision?

I typed a out a really long response and it didnt post because im an idiot. Ok so trying this again.  JB Hunt is in NW Arkansas that I expected to hate because it was Arkansas but ended up loving it and thinking it was wonderful and that I could really live there.  With BNSF I would start as a management trainee at their headquarters for 2mths then be put in a field location to be determined at a later date.  With BNSF I would have to move alost every 2 years because that is how you move up in that company is by going to different locations.  So that sucks.  BNSF pays more at the base level but with JB Hunt's bonus each year (praying we get it) i would make more there.  I think I am leaning towards JB Hunt but im trying to figure out why i guess.

Oh, congrats on your job offers.  I am so glad you enjoyed NWA.  From what I hear, JB Hunt is a good company to work for.   If you move here we'll definitely have to plan a shopping excursion   Let me know if I can answer any questions or anything about NWA.

Thanks and we definately should plan a shopping trip because I will be new to the area and have no clue where to shop.  I have been told that they are building a Saks, Neimans, or Nordstroms soon so that excited me!  I went to the TJ Maxx in Fayetteville and it was so much nicer than the ones in OKC so that made me happy.   It seems like such a nice area.

I don't live in Arkansas, but when I lived in KC, we went to Arkansas all the time for canoe trips, spa trips (Eureka Springs, Hot Springs) and hiking.  Arkansas gets a bad rap...it is seriously one of the most naturally beautiful states in the union and in my experience the people that live there are very nice.

I'd go with JB Hunt.  It will allow you to settle yourself, but don't do it if you are counting on the bonus if it is based on corporate performance because unfortunately, you can work as hard as possible and not impact whether you get a bonus or not.  If it is based on personal performance, then that's great!

Good Luck with your decision.
