It was my first time actually IN the city - I have been to Jersey quite a few times but never actually made it into NYC. We were there less than 24 hours but it was great! We walked through Central Park (EVERYONE has a dog) and stayed with a friend who has a great apartment right off Madison Ave. We wanted to check out the Met but it was packed and we were pretty tired. We had dinner in the East Village (I think) at a place called Supper - OK food, but great prices and a cozy atmosphere. I barely even got a chance to window shop but I was freakin drooling out the car window - I saw Searle, Missoni, Bloomingdales (which we have here but I'm sure it's better in NY), Barneys, everything. I was dying to shop!
It was such beautiful weather and all the NYers were out enjoying it and living life. I was expecting more rudeness and more intimidatingly chic people from what everyone always says about NY, but everyone we ran into was very nice. While overall I think people there have a better sense of style than in most cities and I DID see some great handbags walking around, it was nice to see...just normal people enjoying city life. I thought about you NYC/NJ stylethreaders while I was there! I WILL be back when I have more cash and more time, oh yes indeedy.
Oh what great weather you had! It was gorgeous this weekend.
I walked over to Central Park yesterday and wandered around on Madison for a bit and I felt like such a bum in my hooded sweatshirt and khakis. I saw so many beautifully dressed women. So I guess I was one of the "normal" people that you saw!

I'm sure that you looked very chic in your hoodie! I wonder if we crossed paths without realizing...
i'm glad you had a brief but good time. like cc said, this was definitely a great weekend to be in the city! i still drool at all the shops and beautifully dressed people.
I'm late to this but I was in NYC too this weekend! I got in Saturday night and then spent most of Sunday wandering around Central Park and Madison and stuff. We could've totally seen each other. I did see Julia Stiles (at Columbia) and Carson Kressley (in the Meat Packing district). I had so much fun, I want to live in New York! And thanks to all the NY ladies that gave me recommendations on what to do.
