I am hosting a baby shower the second week in may for a high school friend.
Any ideas for a cute theme but not over the top...She is decorating with Norman Rockwell sports prints and plaid in the nursery b/c it is a boy. Any ideas how I could incorporate the Norman Rockwell theme?
she prefers simple.
Do you give favors at a baby shower, do you play a game?
It will be a small shower -- 15 people---
spinach dip with crostini, crackers
vege platter--baby carrots and celery
choc covered strawberries
cut fruit and a fruit dip
strawberry cake
raspberry punch
cucumber sandwiches
mints

I don't have any Norman Rockwall suggestions, but for ideas for favors hop over to ebay. So many people sell little homemade and personalized favors for baby showers. A friend used ebay for my baby shower favors, little seed packets with a personalized poem, wrapped with felt diapers.

oh mikacat i am so glad you posted this thread! two friends and I are also throwing a baby shower for our mommy-to-be friend the second weekend of may. and we were also wondering what to do. here's what we've come up w/ so far--
as far as games, the mommy to be suggested this game that she played at a baby shower where everyone paints a onesie and then the future mommy choosies which one is the best. so that seems fun, all we have to do is pick up onesies and puffy paint i guess. seems crafty and like it will keep people occupied. we just don't know how much onesies are, we hope they aren't too expensive...
my other mommy-to-be friend (her shower will be later) suggested we play "name that baby" where people write down a name for the baby and then the future mommy tries to guess who picked that name or something. and you never know, maybe she will like a name one of us picks, but it's fun even if the name's already picked out.
as for a theme, we don't really have one, it's at three in the afternoon so i guess we will just decorate w/ pink and stuff (she's having a girl)
oh and for food we were thinking finger foods and cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert.
thanks for starting this thread!
p.s. i just saw your post in home and garden about the modern nursery, i have no advice but just wanted to say your nursery ideas sound very fresh and adorable!
This is my first posting so I'm very excited. My suggestion would be to make a bingo card with blank spaces. Hand out to the guest and have them feel out the spaces with items they think the mom-to-be will receive as gifts. As she opens the gifts, they mark of the items and the first to get bingo wins (you may want to have 2 or 3 winners to keep the game going). It makes the gift opening portion of the party less "ackward" for the mom-to-be. Also, we found baby powder scented candles at AC Moore that were inexpensive and made great gifts. Hope this helps.
I played 2 baby games at my SIL's shower that were pretty fun...
1. Fill up a baby bag with 10 small baby items (pacifiers, rattles, etc) and have the new mom try to guess what they are, blindfolded. You can have people bet on how many she'll get right. Sort of funny to watch.
2. Have all the guests send in or bring a baby pic of themselves. Arrange them on a board and have people guess who's who.

For the 'favor' at my cousin's baby shower, we handed out little individually wrapped honey buns with a ribbon tied around each one and a label that read, "Thanks for celebrating with us! Love, Michael and Ann's little bun in the oven." Super cheap, totally cute, and everyone loved it.
