Starving

Okay, 4 weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers. I'd already lost 6 pounds of holiday weight, but in the last 3-4 years I have been yo-yo-ing about 12 pounds up and down, and I want to learn to maintain. I've lost about 4 pounds on WW, okay everything is fine so far. The last three days, however, I have been starving! I've used up all my bonus points for the week (tomorrow is weigh in) and I bought a fresh veggie plate to snack on.

Another hour to dinner, and I am ravenous. (This may explain why I gained 20 pounds in the first place--I can no longer tolerate the least degree of hunger.)

Any clues as to why this happens? And what do you do when you feel like you are starving to death? I'm eating a healthy, well-balanced diet. I'm not weak or light-headed, I just want to eat!

this is the problem i had both times i tried to do weight watchers.  i think because of how you have to count the points, it makes you think about food and obsess about it all the time.  it works great for some people (my mom does great with it and has lost like 25 pounds before), i am just not one of them--i don't know why.  i think you have to try different plans and figure out what works best for you individually.

so i take it your doing the point system. i know ww has a new one out there that I believe is called "the core". i think that might work out great for you cause I think you dont have to watch your points. you should go online and look into it more. are you signed up online? if so, you can change your plan anytime.

i agree that if you're thinking in points, you're thinking food.  you may be more successful with the exercise approach.  your focus is then on exercising not on food.  i don't know if it makes sense, but it has to do with

diets = deprivation

working out = enabling.

i hope that makes sense.  it's late and it makes sense to me.

How about finding some 0-1 pt snacks to eat when you are hungry and preplanning out your meals? When I preplan my meals the day before (all the way down to snacks) I do really well and can figure out what types of food I want and how much I can eat.

Some Ideas:

when you feel hungry drink something like water, sf koolaid, or crystal light

any fruits or veggies are 0-1 point and good

sugar free jello is 0 points

string cheese is 1 point and good

WW snack cakes are ok for a quick sugar fix but I try not to eat them.

Some fudge bars at the store are 1 point (can't remember which one) you can try them.

I have found that if I eat 'normally' and the write down what I've eaten at the end of the day (just for informations sake), I find that I've eaten hardly any vegetables.  And this is coming from a person who really enjoys fruits and vegetables!  On an average day, I was consuming only about 2 servings of veggies and 3 of fruit.  You're supposed to have 3-5 of veggies and fruit!  Anyway, I'm now aiming for the high end of that scall so that immediately bulks up your diet quite substantially.  I also like to snack, and letting myself do so keeps me from feeling deprived.  Here are some things I like to snack on (or things I use to keep myself from eating an entire gallon of ice cream in one sitting):

FF/SF Chocolate pudding, air popped popcorn, string cheese, green tea, diet soda, cottage cheese, berries (frozen) on plain FF yogurt, crystal light, rye crackers, etc.

My rule is that if it goes in my mouth, it better be doin' something for me!  So instead of focusing on eating as a pleasure/desire action, I try to eat for nutritional purposes (lots of fiber and vitamins) and eat other not-as-good things occasionally and in moderation.  Counting drives me crazy!  For me it's kind of like a watched pot . . . . if I watch it the entire time, the weight just won't come off!
