The 'Cinderella' Problem

Ok, so flats have been around for awhile now and I am finally ready to hop aboard that particular trend train.  I have done my share of trying-on this last week - practically every pair of flats I could get my hands on in my little town.  1 thing I noticed with almost all of them while doing the customary 'spin' around the store:

I WALKED RIGHT OUT OF ALMOST EVERY PAIR.

Right out I tell you!  Does anyone have this problem, or at least know what I'm talking about?  Is it the shoe or my foot?  Have you found any shoes (or even a brand of shoes) that don't do this?

I know exactly what you're talking about! I got some little things at CVS that stick in the back of the shoe behind your heel, and that helps a ton.

I use these too.  They make the fit better and keep you from getting heel blisters!

It depends on the shoe, IMO.  I have a pair from nine west that I have to wear inserts in because my size was too tight, so I had to half-size up.  My other flats (irregular choice cracked flats, and pointy silver Marc Jacobs flats) are a tad tight, so they stay glued to my feet.  Get them slightly snug but out of a nice leather so they mold to your feet.  Hope to help!

Well, it might be the type of flats you've been trying on.  The ballet flats don't have anything to keep you in, so maybe try some with straps on the top.. HTH

I have this problem. I also trip a lot more in flats, because I'm used to wearing heels, and you balance differently with heels (ok, maybe Im' just a clutz, but that's what I tell myself). I did find two pairs that I can wear. One is a slingback, and one is just cut high in the back. For the record, I don't know how anyone walks in those cute mule flats.

Thank you!!!  I think it might (at least partly) be my feet - they are size 5.5-6, wide, with short toes.  Maybe my foot doesn't bend in the place the shoe is designed to bend?  Is it a shoe-flexibility issue?  As for the cute mule flats - I could never wear them in a million years!  Anyway, glad to know I'm not the only one.
