how to cut a mango?
Permalink Closed

i bought a really ripe mango at the store yesterday, and i can't wait to eat it!  do you cut it like you would a pear or pineapple (i.e. four big cuts around the sides vertically, leaving the harder core part in the center)? and then how do i remove the skin once i've done that?

I always make such a mess when cutting a mango.  Here's a website with instructions, this is how I cut them.

Ugh. Mangoes are a beast to cut up. I use the cube method like Luckylily...but be really careful because they are really slippery/slimy.

if this mango if just for you to eat, there's an easier way.

First skin the mango.

Then use a knife and slice off pieces of mango in whatever random angle you can until its mostly gone.

Finally, eat the rest off the seed.

It's a little messy, but faster and easier.

i used to use the cube method, but now i just slice one side off with the skin on (i think that they are hard to cut once the skin is off since they are slippery), cut it into strips or sections, THEN slice the skin off once they are in smaller pieces. i slice one up almost every morning. they are my absolute favorite.

Question, and pehaps an ignorant one. But how does a mango and papaya taste like. My mom is always eating them, but I can't get the courage to try it.

Oh, you HAVE to try mangos. Tey are delicious. One of my favourite fruits. I like papaya but it is too sweet for me a lot of the time. I could eat mangos daily, though. Just be careful because they make a huge mess.

Mangos are delicious. If you're apprehensive about trying the fruit itself, try Eddy's whole fruit mango sorbet - it tastes *almost* as good as the real thing.
