Agree -- I think I would just look frumpy. Plus, to me it seems very trendy. A cheap blazer probably won't look very good, and then spending money on a good quality one for one trend (that can't even continue in the summer here) doesn't seem like a good use of my $.

I like the first one a lot, and I bet you could find a coat at a decent thrift pretty cheap to play around with the look. :)
