I know I shouldn't be annoyed
Permalink Closed

But I just can't help myself. My brother called me the other day to tell me that he's super broke (which I knew) and won't be able to do anything or get me a present for my birthday. Which is fine b/c I know he's having some financial trouble right now and I wouldn't want him to go into debt to buy my a b-day gift, that's just foolish.

But then a minute later he starts telling me that for his gf's b-day (which is 2 days before mine) he is buying her a DVD player and taking her away for the weekend. I'm really trying not to let this bug me but it does. My feelings are a bit hurt and I wish he hadn't told me all about it. I know that I'm just his little sister and his gf is more important but I just wish he hadn't said anything about what he's doing for her. I didn't ask and now I wish I didn't know b/c it's making me feel left out. I just am a bit annoyed with him right now.

Don't feel guilty for being annoyed and hurt.  I would feel the same way.  :(

Maybe he knows you are more understanding than his GF would be?

I'd be annoyed too. In my book, little sisters come before girlfriends!

It's not so bad that he's broke and can't get you a present, it's just obvious that he could have spent a little less on his gf (like maybe left out the DVD player) and saved up some $$ to get you a little something too.

Boys just don't think sometimes.

I'd feel the same way. Brothers officially suck. (That's my personal opinion!)

But, to be honest, I'd do the same thing as him except I'd be too guilty to tell him about spending money on someone else.

Brothers are first and foremost boys. And boys are stupid. Don't take it too personally. Besides, he is your brother so if you can't take it just yell at him and be done with it. Isn't that what siblings do for one another?

I agree!  I see how you would feel bad, that would make me feel bad too.  But you should definitely point out his insensitivity to him.  I would probably go tell my mom or dad if I were in that situation and let them yell at him for me.  And yes, I am an adult but when it comes to family matters I can still act like kid.
