is where I'm going next month and need a decent-priced hotel. Any suggestions on which hotels to look at or which websites that have good deals? Thanks!

My sister and I went to LA last April and stayed at the Standard in Hollywood. We got a rate of $125 a night from Quikbook.com but we also had to pay $18 a day for parking. It's a super cool hotel though and the location is great (right on the Strip). I was tempted by the Downtown Standard because it looks incredible but lots of people advised me against it simply because downtown can be kind of dead.

I'd suggest starting with Quikbook, looking at Tripadvisor for reviews, and double checking with the hotel website and maybe hotels.com or Expedia or something to see what the best prices is, but Quikbook tends to have good rates.

the hollywood standard is a good idea.  what areas are you going to be spending time in? will you have a car, or someone to drive you around? i can make other suggestions based on that...

Bumblebee-
Yes we will have our car and we know the city pretty well. We'll be all over the place...not just one area (hollywood, valley, BH, Westwood, etc.). I'm just looking for a good price on a decent hotel. Thank you.

i was just trying to get some idea of what you wanted as your request was so general.  i don't know anything in the valley.  cc's idea of the hollywood standard is good.  i also like the avalon on beverly drive and olympic in BH--the location is nice and central and it's inexpensive for a design-y/chic hotel (like the standard, sort of).  it also has a good restaurant and a great pool.  there's also the beverly motor lodge on beverly blvd., west hollywood-ish.  it's connected to swingers diner, and a lot of bands stay there.  it's very basic and nothing fancy (it is a typical older motel)--it looks like it would be cheap yet cool, but i have never checked out the prices.
