Vow Renewals

My girlfriend and hubby are renewing their vows in 2 weeks. What do I get them? A bit of background is that he just got diagnosed with a terminal type of cancer. He doesn't have much of an appetite or energy so a gift card to a restaurant is out of the question. Any ideas? Am I supposed to give them something?  I've never been to a vow renewal so I'm at a loss as to the etiquette of things. Please help. Any and all advice appreciated.

hmm, that's a tough one.  i'm not sure it's typical to give gifts at vow renewal ceremonies, but then again i have never been to one so i don't know.  if a gift is appropriate, maybe you could give them something that focuses on time spent together b/c he has a terminal condition.  for example, you could get together with a group of people and give a joint gift cert. for a night or two at a nice hotel, resort, spa, or B&B.  That's all that is coming to my mind right now, but hope it helps a little.

also, you could give some type of sentimental gift that focuses on memories, like a photo almbum filled with pictures of the two of them or some type of scrapbook of their life together?

How long have they been married?

I like the idea of getting them something that allows them to spend some time together. Do you have some mutual friends? It could be nice to go in on a gift with a bunch of other people and get them a weekend spa package thing at a nice hotel or something like that.

I'm so sorry to hear that he's ailing. I don't know if gifts are expected, but it would feel right to give them something small and personal. What about a mix CD of romantic songs, with their wedding picture on the cover?
