SO... (i have to move out)
Permalink Closed

Most likely my roommates and I are being kicked out of our place.  Our building is in foreclosure and in order to get our deposits back, it is in our best interest to leave at the end of May.

LUCKILY, I've lived here for 3.5 years and am ready to move on.  3 roommates was fun for a while, but at 25, I'm ready for less people in my space.  Though I'll miss seeing the train go over the Williamsburg bridge every day and will have to make that long awaited trip to Peter Luger's ( best steak house in NYC) while it is only a block away.

Anyway..  does anyone have any home inspiration ideas or blogs I can check out?  I will be decorating my own place for the first time ever.  I like eames era furniture, steel and metals mixed with woods, things that are industrial and functional but also personal and beautiful.  Also, any sort of architecture blog could be of help for ideas.  I'll probably need lots of kitchen things, a few good lamps, a loveseat (i think i want a leather one)..

Anyway if you are lusting after something awesome, please post (:

Do you ever go to Apartmenttherapy.com? They post a lot of apartments where the owners decorate using mid century design.

Also, Domino magazine has folded *sob* but their website, dominomag.com is still live if you want to go there for some inspiration.

my mother picked me up this book off a clearance bin at Barnes and Noble and it sounds right up your alley:
Ancient + Modern (Rodale Organic Style Books)

well, this sounds like an exciting opportunity for you!

do you want to buy high-end reproductions, or are you ok with inexpensive reproductions?  overstock regularly carries van der rohe, corbusier, and eileen gray knock offs.

I would also suggest scouring thrift stores whenever possible (however, that may be more difficult in your area, as more people are aware of modern design)

here are some overstock pieces:

I'd also recommend apartmenttherapy.com.  I love it so much that I tend to save visiting it until the weekend when i can sit down with a cup of coffee and get lost in it.

I must say I had to check out apartmenttherapy.com for myself and loved it so much that I bookmarked it!

I like to check out rate my space on hgtv.com. Lots of great ideas/inspiration there.

How about decor8, designsponge (my personal favorite), and shelterrific (the move on from the budget living crew)? I visit them regularly and they have great ideas. Designsponge in particular does round-ups ever few weeks that are quite helpful when shopping for home decor items.

No specific advice, but I must have frequent updates about the apartment hunt and the decorating.

So, do you have the new place picked out yet? Are you staying in NYC? And that's exciting that you'll get a place all of your very own!
