New Year's Resolutions
Permalink Closed

I hope everyone had great holidays!

I've been giving new year's resolutions some thought, and thought I'd share.

- get our place fixed up so we can put it on the market and put an offer on my dream house that's for sale around the corner...
- get organized
- be more disciplined in general
- lose some weight...

How about you? Please share!

I rarely keep mine, but here are my resolutions:

-continue working out in hope of getting in better shape
-finally finish planning the wedding (this I will for sure accomplish since I get married in March)
-decorate our new house
-save more money
-try to go on a girls trip
-figure out where I'm going career wise

in addition to my style resolutions listed in another thread, I think my biggest one is just to save money. I already have 15% of my paycheck automatically put into a savings account, but I know I can do better than that if I quit wasting money on eating out and shopping so much.

+ clean out my closet
+ start thinking about my next step professionally
+ make exercising part of my everyday life
+ eat less sugar
+ go on a great vacation
+ take more chances with dating and enjoy myself- even if I know someone is not right in the long run

1. be more creative and willing to take more risks, try not to default to the most conservative choice

2. similar to that, put more effort into what I am doing - don't take the easiest path, don't "not do" something because I think I won't be good at it or it won't turn out right

3. go to yoga at least once/month

4. plan at least one social activity/month - try not to be so much of a homebody

5. stay in touch more with friends who live far away

6. put away $$$ each month for a trip back to Napa this summer

Here are (some ) of mine

  • figure out where to go next, professionally: I have switched field, and I have to figure out how to keep doing what I am doing now
  • spend more time with my friends
  • re-start doing ballet: it was unfortunate that the nights there were ballet classes, I was working late. Hope this can change from january...
  • go to see plays and concerts more often: I gave bf a ticket to auditorium for the new year concert for christmas, and we went yesterday: we both enjoyed it a lot
  • buy less, but better quality clothes, not necessarily expensive stuff, but good fabrics

Next year is going to be huge for me... I'm graduating from my master's program and am so ready to get out of my boring job.

-Find a job in professional field... this will be a challenge since my area is traditionally funded by the government and therefore many positions are not opening until the budgets get better.

-Start saving $$ for a home once I find a job, hopefully in an area we would like to stay (otherwise just save until we move somewhere we'd like to stay)

-Cook more at home, bring more lunches

-Exercise more regularly

I'll keep mine simple:

*Lose FIVE lbs., and I'll be happy w/that.
*Save MORE money, stop dipping into my savings actt. Dad and I have another FLA trip coming up in late May, and I DEF. want to have money for that!!! :)
*Get MORE ogranized at work AND home.....
*Make my money go further.

- Answer honestly when people say "How are you?" and if I'm not sure exactly how I am in that moment, just say "great" and let it go at that.

- Connect with close friends at least once a month, even if it's just by sending a brief email or mailing a card. Spend less time nurturing the relationships that don't pay back in some way.

- Spend more time in the garden keeping up on little chores instead of wearing myself out doing six hours of work in one day. I'm just not that young anymore and I can't rebound like I used to. Deadhead, mulch, prune, weed, etc.

My main goals for 2009 are to lose weight, get organized again, and save some money.

- Have people over at my place more often.  I love entertaining but lately I've been lazy about it.
- Go to the gym at least three times a week.
- Get to work early enough to get good parking (sounds silly but a long walk with coffee in heels is not fun!)
- Get my PMP certification
- Buy less and get rid of some clothes and shoes so my closets are not so overstuffed.
- Get a new job and move to a new city
- Date more often (consider online dating - match.com or eharmony?)

Happy new year everyone!

Usually not a huge fan of resolutions, but goals are good. smile.gif

- Get my arse into shape. I'm not feeling as toned as before and my job is so boring that I eat just for some excitement so I've gained about 10 pounds in the past year.
- Learn some new jewelry design techniques
- Figure out my career path problem
- Move somewhere. Anywhere. Even if it's just to the (very) small city just south of my town, I just need to get out of this dead, boring town.
- Try to keep the freaking out to a minimum when I turn 30 in August
- Pay off all debt except student loans (those I'll have until I'm 90- I've made my peace with that)- I should have this done within the first half of the year

*Lose the last 15 pounds of baby weight (I guess if I stick to the first one, it would be much easier).

1. Stop having "what if" conversations in my head.
2. Stop obsessing over aging and tiny wrinkles
3. Go back to school since my company pays 100% tuition ( have to wait for divorce to be over first so I can concentrate on it)
4. Learn to shop within my new budget!
