I don't have a lot of information personally, but I am also interested...one of my classmates last semester was really enthusiastic about the benefits and she sold essential oils through this company:
If you have a health food store nearby, talk to people who work in the body/supplements area. Get multiple associates' tips and suggestions for how they use essential oils and where to get good information. Maybe they can recommend a practitioner in the local area who can give tips.
Check event calendars at nearby stores, spas, and holistic health centers to see if anyone will be leading a seminar on the uses of essential oils.
I like the old standby of rubbing briskly a drop or two of essential oil in your hands, placing your hands in front of your face, and breathing in the fragrance to relax or rejuvenate. Just make sure the oil you are using is suitable to put directly on skin or use a carrier.
I don't know much about it, but I would trust Aura Cacia brand if I were in your position. It is available at Whole Foods and other well-respected health food stores.
One more thing - Greendiamond--you totally got me going on this essential oils thing!
I just bought 3 blends from Aura Cacia over the weekend -- "Chil Pill," "Creative Juice," and "Cool Hottie." I also picked up a scent diffuser for my office and house and a bottle of jojoba oil to use as a carrier.
