Is the Dyson really worth it?
Permalink Closed

I am in the market for a new vac, and I really want one, but I am choking at paying $400-$500 when I could pay $180 for a nice Hoover.

I have two dogs, one of which is a very hairy Husky (the other is a moderately hairy Lab ). Our current vac, a basic Eureka model, picks up the Lab's hair fine, but does nothing with the thicker Husky hair.

Can anyone who has it talk me into or out of it? And does anyone know what the difference is between the Animal model and the basic? All I can find is that the Animal has an attachment, which I don't need.

We have a Dyson and I love it.  I mean you can REALLY tell when I vaccum.  I can suck dust off my ceiling fan with the nozzle from like 3" away.  I use it to get dust of the baseboards and it does a really good job.  Better than an vaccum I've ever used.

I don't have pets, but I think the attachemnt you talking about is the beater bar for furniture which if you have a husky you may want to consider, for hair on the furniture.

I don't know the model we have, my husband picked it out.  But I'll check and let you know.

It is wonderful  == plus my hubby loves to vacuum now, so I never even have to. It can really suck up the dust though.....I think you will be pleased.

We have the model right down from the Animal...not sure which one but I will ask my husband when he gets home. It wasn't $400 or $500, somewhere in the 3's. I'll ask for you.

I just registered for the Animal on my wedding registry.. i heard they are amazing. I know one advantage with the Animal model is there are some extra filters that are supposed to help with Pet Dander, and better suction to pick up thick pet hair.

Yes, it is absolutely worth the money!  I honestly think it is the best $500 we have ever spent.  Our apartment looks a million times better and it takes so much less time to vacuum because we don't have to go over areas more than once.

We got the Animal 'cause we have 3 cats and a dog and it received overall better review on Amazon.  I'm not sure if there is a difference other than the attachment.  However, my husband (who does all the vacuuming) loves the animal attachment for cleaning furniture, and he thinks it was worth the extra money.

I seriously cannot say enough about how much I love this vacuum.  I've been telling everyone that will listen how great it is.

Get one!

if you can afford a good vacuum, it is totally worth the money.  check out miele vacuums too -- they are awesome and have been around longer than the dyson (so they may have more kinks worked out).  the only downside is that they don't have the cool see-through dirt holer like the dyson.

I love my Dyson. It works so well, I have 2 cats and it sucks up the pet hair so well. I never worry about my daughter crawling on the floor. If you live near a Costco, Dyson makes a special model just for them and it's $100.00 cheaper.

My mom just bought a Dyson a couple of months ago, and she loves loves loves it.  My mother has never been satisfied with a vacuum and trust me she has tried them all from ones you can buy in a store to electralux, and rainbow vacuums which cost nearly $1700.  I would say it is worth it.

sorry e_doli but i just had to butt in.. i've only had horrible experiences with miele products. i don't know why they have this amazing reputation. i've only experienced alot of bad things with miele vacs in particular. i think they are way too expensive for what you get. also had a terrible experience with a miele rotary iron... worst way to spend 2.5k. but i don't know alot of people who would spend that much on an iron...!

I think I am gonna get one. I just can't decide if the animal is worth the extra $$$ (I use my shopvac for all stair/furniture cleaning, so I don't need the attachment). I may get the regular & try it, then get the other one if I feel like I can still see hair. My husky's hair is almost like what you'd find on cats (long and fine...it gathers in balls).

lasunshine - I will look into the costco option...thanks!

Halleybird, I'm late but: HELL YES is my advice.

I have two dog and a Dyson Animal and I think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made and well worth the $450. I actually LIKE vacumming now, it's very sick, but the house is spotless. I even tried to vacuum one of my dogs but that didn't go down very well.

It even works to vacuum all the hair off their dog beds.
