i give up! (long rant)

i've had a bad week. nothing horrible happened, but work is super hectic, and the weather refuses to warm up. to help improve my mood, i decide to splure on something new as a little pick me up. my first choice (a joystick shrug featured in the march elle) was nowhere to be found when i went to intermix. (i could write a short essay on the frustration of searching for something featured in a magazine only to have it not be available and/or encounter sales people who have never even heard of the alleged item).

i then decide to buy a new pair of jeans. i have these true religionsView Larger Imageand have pretty much been living in them since i got them. therefore i decide to buy another pair so i can rotate them.

i wake up bright and early, full of excitement about the wonderful shopping to be done, and head to bloomingdales, which is pretty much denim mecca.  as i'm perusing the racks, i soon realize that true religion doesn't really make a lot of washes. i specifically wore the ones i own so i could do a comparison. i end up selecting this pairView Larger Imagebut in the joey twisted seam mainly b/c the wash is significantly different from the ones i have. while inspecting them in the fitting room, i realize as great as the fit is, they're kind of blah, and if i'm going to spend $172 (not including tax) i should try and get the most bang for my buck. plus i already own a pair of medium wash levi's type 1 jeans, and the fit is exactly the same as tr, right down to the twisted seam.

so i take another look around the store, only to realize that pretty much every pair of jeans is over $150 -- and by over i mean closer to $200 than $150.  wtf! i remember when 7's were only $125 and they were considered pricey. it's as though it's not enough to come up with new styles of designer denim, companies seem to be in a competition to see who put the most outlandish price tag on their jeans.

after much deliberation and the help of several awesome sales people, i end up getting these jeansView Larger Image;View Larger Imageby duarte

View Larger Image (though they really are only a shade lighter than my current pair of tr's but at least they have some detailing to help justify the outrageous price)

bloomingdale's is having a denim event next week -- 15% off when you buy two or more pairs of jeans and you can do a pre-sale. i was so frustrated, and exhausted after trying on over 10 pairs that i just gave up and figured i could come back in a week (with a good friend b/c i really need the help) and figure out which pair i really want.

but i feel kind of silly b/c the main reason i got the first two pairs (though i will say the duarte's fit amazingly well, and the rise on the first pair is slightly higher for those of you who are tired of showing the world your a**crack) is b/c i haven't seen anyone wearing them and the sales people told me they had a very limited stock. so i'm kind of justifying them by thinking i'll be one of the few people (at least for now) wearing them which partly makes up for the ridiculous price tag (both cost more than the tr's), but that doesn't make that much sense.

sorry for the short essay. but i really don't know what to do. right now i'm thinking f* it, i'm just not buying any of them b/c it really makes no sense to pay that much for something i can only wear twice a week. but another part of me wants to get them and just take them to bloomies in jersey and see if they'll let me return them and rebuy them. which is soooo ghetto, but at least i'll save $40+ in taxes. aarg! i'm so confused. thanks for reading this.

anyone have advice?

*****big hugs****

I feel your pain...jeans shopping has become so damn frustrating lately. I ended up with my AG Legends (they were $80 at Loehmanns...stomachable) because I was tired of seeing EVERY single pair of freakin' jeans I wanted be over $170. I mean, I love my $172 TR Joeys and all, but I don't want to spend $170 on every single pair of jeans I own. I like the Duarte jeans, but I honestly wouldn't drop the cash on them. I can't for the life of me figure out what justifies the prices for like Antik and Notify...I'm still scratching my head over it. But if this is any consolation, one of our clients, who's originally from NY, came into my office and told me that she really hadn't see TR floating around NYC the way she had seen it on everyone in LA.

BTW, I saw a bunch of Joystick t-shirts at the Loehmann's out here in Beverly Hills and I thought of you. They were $40.

honey i know exactly what you're going through... i think you're more interested in changing your mood by buying something cool than actually owning something cool. i am so guilty of this all the time. i know that shopping makes me feel better and then it becomes my mission to make me feel better by shopping... which of course usually makes me frustrated and feel worse.

i say ask yourself why you went there in the first place. do you really want these things because you need them or would really like to have them? or are those secondary reasons to just the uplifting thrill of a new purchase.

i'm not saying that shopping therapy isn't great, but it just sounds like you're making alot more trouble for yourself than what you actually need. there's always some sort of event some where.. so just think it over. if those jeans are going to be on your mind for the next week, then get them.. if it's just a passing thing to change your mood then pass.

whatever happens i hope you feel better. i have been feeling blah too lately.
