i purchased a digital SLR and want to take a class to learn how to use the dang thing.
has anyone taken any that are worth recommending? I would love to take the New York Institute of Photog classes, but they are pretty pricey at $350. A local college here has one online for $89 that I will likely end up doing.
hey kari! that's great that you got a dslr camera. i too want to learn photography (having babies did it to me). i have heard fabulous things about these online classes:
they are pretty pricey and so i haven't tried them yet, but i plan to eventually. i have a friend who started her own photography business and she swears by this site and this instructor. she said the classes were challenging but fun and you can chat w/ other classmates and learn from them through their forum, etc. she loved it so much she practically begged me to join. apparently, the instructor is super knowledgable and has a good sense of humor, which makes the classes fun. they had weekly assignments - the students would be told to tak a photograph of something at night, or something moving, for example, and then post the pic for feedback, etc. if you want more info i could get you in touch with my friend.
thanks alb! i am tired of spending hundreds on photographers...these classes actually look pretty good...and at $175 not too bad (would spend say more on a photo session!)
kari - the guy that is listed first under instructors who is also the founder of the site is the instructor i was reffering to - if you do it get him. i think his name is bryan perterson or something but i'm too lazy to look. let me know how you like it if you sign up. i am going to take classes through them some time in the near future.
