In the US, it was "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears for Fears (6/15/85). I this song. I actually had whole conversations on this song with one of my professors when I was 16.

In the UK, it was "You'll Never Walk Alone" by The Crowd. I also follow UK music and I've never heard of these people...anyone feel like enlightening me?

BF has the best #1 though..."You're So Vain" by Carly Simon. (1/10/73)

Uh... I was, like, a teenager when most of you were born - that's my music! LOL....

When theotherjess was born, I was driving around in my very first car at age 16 singing along to that Whitney song! Let me guess, 1987?

When I was born, the #1 was "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart," by the Bee Gees. Which I swear I have never heard.... I didn't know they did anything before like 1976! (I was born in 71, I'll admit it).

Yuck....Stayin’ Alive by The Bee Gees.

And I'm feeling pretty old too because I remember listening to "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Kyrie" on the radio and I learned how to play "The Glory of Love" on the piano! Oh manhattanmonkey, Peter Cetera is the frontman for Chicago and "The Glory of Love" was from The Karate Kid Part II.

OMG!  Glory of Love is a great song.  It is from Karate Kid II.  It is the one that goes, "I am the man that will fight for your honor.  I'll be the hero that you're dreaming of."

On the other hand, what is Ebony and Ivory?  I"ve seen that song come up a couple times now.

I like the song I got:  My Sharona.  I've always liked that song.

Ohhh lord, now I really feel old! Actually I'm only 4 years older than you and was too young to appreciate Blondie during their prime years.
You have to know Blondie though. Seriously. Debbie Harry! "Heart of Glass!" "One Way or Another!" They had a million hit singles.

Here, from allmusic.com
"Blondie was the most commercially successful band to emerge from the much-vaunted punk/new wave movement of the late '70s."

"Ebony & Ivory" is a really cheesy duet by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.

Oh and f413, I don't know if you watch Arrested Development but "Afternoon Delight" was an important part of a bizarre and hilarious karaoke plotline a few weeks ago.
