I've never had my eyebrows waxed, but I want to go to a professional just to make sure I have the shape and angles correct, etc.
The receptionist at my salon said I should grow them out to a quarter of an inch, just like you have to do for leg and bikini waxes.
Maybe I'm totally off the mark, but that seems super long overgrowth to me for eyebrows. I feel like I would look like a Mr. Peepers if I had my bushy eyebrows grown out that long...it's not like your legs where you can just wear pants for a week or two to hide the stubble! I mean, the whole point of wanting to get them waxed is that I don't like how it looks when they just grow out on their own!
Do I really have to keep my tweezers totally away from my brows for that long? If so...how do you ladies do it without feeling totally unpolished? I'm not sure it's worth if if I have to let them grow so long...

Ugh, yes, I had to go several weeks without touching them. It was painful to behold. Plucking my eyebrows is like a hobby to me. I still had to go after the one or two hairs that grew in between...
I wore my glasses every day to distract from the shagginess.
i just had my esthetician do mine for the first time and it was amazing! totally worth it! make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing, though!

Have you thought about getting your eyebrows threaded? I like it way better than waxing. I think it's more precise. I don't think your eyebrows have to be quite as long either, but maybe I'm wrong.

I should mention that the sadistic Russian eyebrow waxer I've been going to lately made me go through this regrowth process because she needed to see how my eyebrows grow and their natural shape - it wasn't so much that the hair has to be a certain length. She didn't like what I'd been doing with them on my own...
I go in sprees. I'll get my brows waxed regularly about every 6 weeks or so. Doing it that way means I'll look like ass for about 1.5-2 weeks. It's hard and unpleasant, but I like the results of a professional job.
Lately, I have been just plucking at home. I'm going to go back when I'm on winter break because I don't like plucking, and I'm not keeping it up like I should.
Aside from getting one's brows shaped initially, it's sometimes difficult to recognize the purpose and benefit of getting one's brows waxed or threaded unless you grow them out. If you're going to be plucking and plucking anyway, why get them waxed? Just pluck at home.
Waxing does get rid of all the baby fuzz hair on your brows, which is not always the case with tweezing at home.
A quarter of an inch is horribly long, and a good esthetician should be able to do a fine job on hairs that are shorter.

I also do eyebrow threading and IMO it is far better than waxing. It does not cause me to breakout (which wax does) it's is precise, leaves no redness and only cost $8 at the place I go.
