I don't know about the blank disk issue, but depending on how much music you have, you might just want to invest in a external hard drive. You can get pretty large ones for between $50-$100. I've seen them at Costco/BJ's type places for pretty cheap. If you store lots of music and/or pictures on your computer, it's a really good idea to get the external. Think of basically as a flash/thumb drive, but larger (generally half the size of a construction brick) and capable of storing more than your actual computer. My BF has one, it stores somewhere around a billion gigabytes. I'm exaggerating of course, but I do know that it has more storage than my actual laptop.

I would have to ask him, but what I think he did was use the external as where iTunes saves everything, meaning it's not so much a backup but simply where he stores everything. This does mean, however, that he only can use iTunes when he has the external plugged into his computer. That works for him though, because he actually carries around TWO external hard drives all the time anyway. One for school and one for music. Sick, I know.
Did that make any sense? I would assume that he would have to have the iTunes program on the external. To run/store anything, you need the software designed for the file.
Can somebody explain this better? I'm confusing myself!
