Planning vacation-California girls please help

I asked this question in the travel section, but I think I may have more luck here. Has anyone been to Catalina Island? If so, would it be worth me making a day trip over there. I am trying to plan a trip to California and was wondering if that would be worth me staying an extra day for. Thanks.

I've lived here my whole life and never felt the need to go to Catalina.

If you Google Giada Catalina, she went on one of her weekend shows on the Food Channel. IIRC she took a helicopter, which was surprisingly not that much more than a boat (like maybe $20 more) and of course much faster. So maybe you could make a half day of it instead of a full day.

I don't know that I'd stay an extra day, but if you can squeeze it in then I would. I think it kind of depends on what you enjoy doing and where in California you're going to be, etc.

my son just went with his 7th grade class. He had a blast! He went kayaking (sp?) and had dolphins and a seal right next to him. Saw deer and went hiking and snorkling. I went but dont remember a thing because I was too young. I would definately want to check it out now

I've have and it really depends on your personality.  I felt it was very laid back and lazy....so I had fun wink
I highly suggest you take the helicopter or use one of the faster ferry services.  A two hour ride with a bunch of puking passengers can really put a damper on your day.

Thank you all so much. I think I will plan on going and all of your suggestions will help me plan. It sounds like fun!

Suarsoria and AllieGurl-You both sound like me when it comes to things around here. I work about 2 minutes from NASA and the only time I will step foot over there is when my family comes from out of state and begs me to take them. I rarely do any of the touristy things we have nearby. I will make sure to let you know when I come back so you can check it out one day. You can have a staycation! LOL!

Heh, yes. A wealth of culture here, and I'm glued to my Tivo. (In my defense, I go to plays, gallery openings, botanical gardens, the occasional festival, and other stuff that's off the beaten path!)

If you like art/architecture, see if Watts Towers will be open for public tours during your visit. It is absolutely astonishing. There's nothing like it in the whole world.
