ok, so yesterday was the first day of my shopping ban.  i stayed strong but i really think i need to set some ground rules for myself or else i will cheat...can you guys help?  farrah?  lsubatgirl?  any tips?  here's what i've got so far.

1.  set a deadline (when are yours?)

2.  don't go to the mall

3.  spending gift cards i already have is ok (i only have 2 though--$30 to barnes and noble and $50 to br) but i can't spend more than what's on the card.

that's all i've really got, i feel like i need to get more specific...i'm also trying to control how much i spend on eating out.  what are your weekly budgets for food?  thanks for the help y'all!

Welcome to the bandwagon!  I think you're on the right track - here are my specs for examples sake:

1.  My deadline is March 25th (the day my SO leaves for Texas for 3 months!)

2.  I clean/organize the house or exercise instead of going to the mall

3.  GCs are the nicotine patches of shopping.  I'm still hoarding some of mine from Christmas.

4.  Our food budget is $350 per month (groceries) and another $25 per week for eating out.

Good luck!

Welcome.  My #1 thing is to not go to the mall!!  Well lately I've been able to go and walk out with nothing but that's only because I've stayed away for weeks initially.  AJ had a good post about her experience doing that last month.  Its kind of an awakening.  I can't really say I've saved a significat amount (150 so far) since I've had school books come due but its 150 more than before so I guess I'm doing well.

I go out to eat maybe once a week but I try to limit it to stuff with friends and not because I'm lazy and don't wanna cook/bring from home.  Its helped because the difference between eating out and cooking at home really adds up.

I don't really have a deadline - well I guess its until the final book bill for school is due which is March 15th I think but I'm going to try to keep the spending down through April as a I'm still with you Farrah thing since she's really trying to stay on till April I think.

Set rules but know if you cheat its ok.  Just cheat once on one thing and not on a lot.  I cheated once but I didn't beat myself up over it and its work attire so its ok.
