I just can't do it....

I always tell myself that I'm going to grow my hair out then I get really sick of it and get a pixie again. Well I have been bound and determined to grow it out this time (damn it!) and the urge to cut it off hit me again. Help me get through this "I fricken hate my hair" stage. It is currently jaw length-ish with some layers and long bangs. Any styling suggestions or something.....?

Hee...my sister is just like you! She swears up and down about 8 times a year that she "growing it out". Of course, she always gets it all chopped off again when it gets to the in-between stage. I don't have any styling advice (my hair is long) except to say that this stage is shorter than you think...don't cut it!

That is actually really good advice, thanks! I never thought of it that way. I get impatient before I have a chance to get past it.

I am the exact same way. I always tell myself I am going to grow my hair out and it never fails I always get it cut short. Well, maybe not short short, but shoulder length. I would go to the salon to get a trim and it would end up being more than a trim. My only advice is to stay away from the salon. I went quite a long time w/ out cutting it because I just avoided the salon. I decided that I wanted to get it trimmed a little and I ended hacking off like two inches.

Hang in there - barrettes, headbands, scarves, whatever - just try to do something interesting every day, and pretty soon this stage will be over!

My advice is to GO TO THE SALON. I grew my hair out over the past year and it was agonizing. What saved me was going to the salon every few weeks to get it shaped into some sort of style. So, at each stage in the process I had a decent looking hairstyle. It worked out much better than just letting it grow and looking like a shagamuffin for a year. It sounds like terrible advice to get a trim every so often when you're trying to grow it out, but it really does help.

I feel your pain. I am in that stage right now too. My hair was driving me nuts, so I thought that I would even up the layers so it would be easier to grow out. I'm kinda glad I did that, and I'm kinda not. It looks better, but it's shorter than it was. Oh well, I'm never happy with my hair. Keep getting regular trims, it does help.

How would you do the scarves? And barrettes too, how would you wear them?

I totally agree with this. One very long summer... I went from long hair, to a bob, to a pixi... and then grew out my pixi pretty quickly. My hair grows at rapid speeds so I would go to the salon almost every 2 or 3 weeks to get it shaped. This is when I fell in love with my hairdresser.
