Contacts and Dry Eyes
Permalink Closed

If you wear contacts and they cause dry eyes you have got to check these new contacts out!

First, let me say that I have worn contacts regularly for about 7 years, and always have problems with dry eyes. I have switched brands over the years always looking for something better, tried the daily wear (hated those - they kept tearing in my eyes and I wasn't wearing them for more than one day), and have been using two-week contacts for years.

A little over the month ago I visited my eye doc and again complained about my eyes and the contacts.  He gave me 02 Optix which is brand new to the market.   He told me they were originally available for people recovering from eye surgery, but they are now available to everyone, and are especially good for dry eyes.  So I figured it was hype, but whatever I will try anything.  OH MY GOD!   These contacts are God's gift to those with bad eyes.  They feel like nothing.  NOTHING! I used to take my contacts out by 7 or 8pm, because they felt so dry, but these are so great I have forgotten to take them out at night.  I wore them last week on vacation and couldn't believe the difference wearing them at the beach.  I never could do that before, what with the salt and water and wind and whatnot.  I wore these snorkeling, swimming, playing on the beach (with salt, sweat, and sand getting in my eyes) with NO PROBLEMS.  I even had a staring contest with my SO to test my contacts, and I won!  No lie, these are so great that if you dry your eyes out, they somehow make you produce tears - that never would have happened with any of my old contacts.

You should at least give these a try.  I think if you visit your eye doc and ask for a free sample.  I cannot tell you enough how great they are, you'll have to see for yourself.

Here's some information from the webstie:

Your eyes need oxygen to stay healthy and comfortable. But soft contact lenses create a barrier to the flow of oxygen between your eyes and the air around them. O2OPTIX provides the highest oxygen transmissibility of any 2-week contact lens, helping to keep eyes whiter, brighter and healthy-looking.

Additional Information:
Without enough oxygen, you might feel symptoms such as end-of day discomfort, irritation, dryness, and redness. Also known as Corneal Oxygen Deficiency. In the long run, lack of oxygen may even cause complications. People who wear their contacts longer than the recommended wearing time are most at risk. O2OPTIX is made with a revolutionary silicone hydrogel technology allowing 5 times more oxygen to reach the eye than the leading 2-week lens to help protect you from the signs and symptoms of Corneal Oxygen Deficiency

Also, I saw a $30 and $40 rebate offer on the net, so you can save money (and they don't cost more than regular contacts either).

Awesome!

So I'm guessing they help with reddness too?

I'm difinately going to look into them for myself and my son.

Another brand to consider is the new Acuvue Advance. I was recently prescribed these and have had no complaints yet - they also feel like nothing and go in SO easily. It takes seconds to put my contacts and I have no problems with them staying in place.
