How to make gray eyeshadow NOT look blue?
Permalink Closed

Whenever I put on gray or silverish eyeshadow...it looks blue!! I bought this baked goods physician's formula eyeshadow thing that comes with 3 grays (a light one, a medium one and a charcoal one). But whenever i put them on, it looks like im wearing blue eyeshadow. Does anyone else have this prob, and if so, what can i do to solve it? Are there any really good gray eyeshadows i can buy that LOOk GRAY when i wear them? Thanks!

I have this gorgeous pewter gray eyeshadow from laura mercier. Has just the perfect amount of lustre and looks so luxe!

Do you have cool undertones in your skin?  Maybe that's why they are looking blue on you.  Anyway, to make use of the gray shadows you have, I would layer them over a brown shadow - hopefully that will warm it up a bit.

I have the same eyeshadow, only it doesn't look blue on me, and I have really fair skin with cooler undertones.  Which shade is turning bluish on you?  The charcoal one should definitely be staying true to color because it's so dark.  As for the other ones, are you applying them wet or dry?  If you're applying them dry, then you might just be applying it too lightly so that the undertones of your skin are coming through.  Try applying them wet (they work really well that way) and you should have a true silver (for the lightest one) and gray (for the medium one).  Of course, applying them wet will give you more saturated color.  You could just try using an eye shadow base instead or shade the color over a neutral shade like MAC Hush (for a more matte look) or MAC Casa Blanca (for more shimmer).  If you really want it to have staying power, then try layering it over the MAC shadestick in Beige-ing.  WARNING...this will give it a slightly rose-y undertone (I just walked into my bathroom to try it for you using the medium shade) but it definitely will not look blue.  It's actually really pretty and the shadesticks don't budge.

Try applying a thin layer of white shadow for base before applying the gray shadow.
I find applying white shadow before applying another light color helps in bringing out the true color I'm trying to show off.

Hope this helps.
