Soliciting your advice and ideas...

Our office recently completed an important project that was under my so-called leadership.  Many of my co-workers had to pitch-in unexpectedly on work that we normally do not have to do.  Much of the work was thankless, tedious, and mind-numbing (for example, "cleaning" data on a spreadsheet that had over 17,000 rows of information (not exaggerating)).  We are all career counselors, so this isn't our usual type of preferred gig.

Since they will probably not get thanked from any other source (that's a whole other thread), I want to make sure that I thank them.  I want to, at least, send each of them a nice, handwritten thank you card.  Do you think I should include a small gift with the card?  If so, what do you think would be nice and appropriate?  We're talking about 4 women in their late 20s, early 30s, two of which I have worked with between 3-5 years.  The other two are newer to our department (0-1 year).  Thank you.

At my work we are usually rewarded with Starbucks giftcards or candy!  Mostly everybody likes it, you can't go wrong.

What about taking everyone to lunch? Or giving amex giftcards?

I like the taking everyone to lunch idea. I use to work for sales people and whenever we went above and beyond they would take us to lunch or dinner. It definitely boosted morale and we knew they appreciated us.

Handwritten cards would be lovely, and I think lunch is a great way to say thank you and to celebrate the project's completion.

What about a big basket o' treats for everyone to share? I know most people are meh on gift baskets but I happen to like them.

I was also going to suggest food. If you can't take everyone out to lunch, maybe bring a special lunch or some food to the office.

I think notes are okay, but a verbal thank you with lunch or something is better.
